Trade McGovern or Barrass

The AFL knew exactly what a pandemic would mean for their business back in March.

That's why they took out 500 million, immediately stood down staff, requested clubs do the same and told players to take a pay cut and have taken over the books of clubs that are being assisted by AFL.

When most of those things were announced, most people's first reaction was that the AFL was over-reacting.

The AFL knew better than pretty much everyone.
But yet they chose Gabba to host gf making less profit than in Adelaide and Perth?

Before Schofield announced his retirement (12 months premature in my opinion) I would've been happy to see Barrass moved on, if he was happy to go.

He's been a really hot and cold footballer the last 2 years. in 2019 I assumed the lack of preseason was the issue but in 2020 the malaise has continued. For a Fullback, that's alarm bells. It's Defcon 5. Hot and cold is something I can live with for a small forward, to a certain extent, but not a KPD, no way. It costs you goals and it costs you games, sometimes big games.

But the fact is Schoey is no more and we can't afford to lose another KPD. Our coaches need to work with Barrass over summer because he needs to re-assess his game.

Barrass has been so high on himself the last 2 seasons. He not only drank his own bathwater, he distilled it into a type of vodka and got absolutely hammered on the stuff 😡

Someone ought to find that Harry Highpants pic he thought was hilarious and roast him over it like the jackass he is.

#stillmelting 😡😡

yet they could have moved the comp to perth and had crowds all season......

We should've given Edwards in a few games just to see how capable of playing a true KPD role, the fact that he's only played less than half a game makes me very nervous that he's basically the 3rd choice KPD apart from fill-ins like JW, Allen, Rotham or Yeo.

But that would be acquiescing to stakeholder that publicly bashed them from pillar to post all year and put unnecessary obstacles in the way.

Like Ryan Daniels said in his article a week or so back, given what was happening behind the scenes it is a wonder there were any games in WA at all this year.

Both of them in the same team is not required and actually hurts the team defensively as both play too offensive.

Both have good currency and could get a built inside mid, which is what WC lack. A stopper defensive player to replace them is much easier to find and will do the job like Schofield (had he played vs Collingwood instead of McGovern result would have been different)

Gov played so its a fair comment but he was coming back from injury & that hand is not right.

Getting rid of AAs is fine, but if its for draft picks its total rebuild stuff. Are you suggesting Rotham could hold down a key tall spot in 2021?

Not for me.

I was laughing when they called McGovern the best defender of the last 10 years on the telecast

Best intercept defender yes, but not best defender overall

If eh?? what?
Leaving Schofield out of the side cost us big time. He is (was) clearly our best lockdown tall defender. When Barrass is asked to be accountable against an opposition tall forward he almost always struggles. It wasn't just that fast start by that yank either. He cost us another goal late in the game when he missed a routine spoil that got out the back of a contest. Basic error.

The mids to be looked at more than the god damn key defenders...our mids are getting old, dude..
Hence trade a KPD which WC have 2 of - essentially Barrass and McGovern are the same player to get a big inside mid

As I said trade one of them (either is fine) for a mid (not a draft pick) as having 2 intercept tall defenders means they play too attacking. Having 1 is ok but not 2 as that leaves the team defensively weak.

Maybe give Cox some credit.
Schofield fan myself, I'm not knocking him.

Are they realistic targets? Cripps will be for 2022, not now. Be happy to load up to get him.
I don't know but you got to ask the question and be willing to offer one of them. Dunkley especially, Bulldogs need KPP and have an abundance of mids so I'm sure they would let him go for a KPP - either Barrass or McGovern

There is no point in having 2 intercept tall defenders when opposition KPF kick multiple goals against you. How many goals did McGovern and Barrass cost this game because they both cannot defend 1 on 1? How many goals they cop this season because they can't defend 1 on 1? How much better did the defence look vs North and St Kilda without McGovern?

The trend of picking 200 centimeter plus full towards, like Cox and the King brothers, etc, means we need to fast track Edwards for that defensive role in 2021.

Brayshaw from Melbourne, Cripps from Carlton, Dunkley from Bulldogs

Brayshaw won't come to the Eagles.

Cripps is a Free agent next year, and Carlton are stocked for key position players.

Dunkley is heart and soul bulldogs, but an interesting proposition.
