If this is true its an absolute disgrace. the crap I read about how they have managed to pick the bones out of other clubs is a joke then. If you have an extra mill to spend that is 3 bloody good players on 350k a year you can get from another club.

we are continously being sold the story about how good they are at getting recycled players. what about living in melbourne expenses you twits.

What an absolute joke. this is laughable.

My understanding is that it is now just under a mill, something like $940,000 they have in addition to everyone else.

Strange that Sydney is deemed significantly mroe expensive than Melbourne and Perth, yet Melbourne and Perth are not deemed to be significantly more expenisve than Geelong or Adelaide.

It's completely unethical and corrupt and goes against all the rhetoric dripping from Demetriou about drafts and free agency evening up the competition.

That extra money gets you Kennedy and Mumford and enables you to hold on to O'Keefe, stopping him coming to Hawthorn a few years back.

If Sydney poached a few Collingwood players, Eddie would be up in arms and the rules would be changed. I miss Jeff. Newbold, time for you to step up and address our awful 2012 fixture and the debacle of the finals scheduling.

I wouldn't mind putting a bid in for Pedersen. Can play back, forward or in the ruck and a decent user of the ball, especially in front of goal.

How does he compare to McCauley ? Given that Pederson was at Box Hill we would have taken McCauley over him (or did we - i forget ?)

According to Mark Riccuito:

"Chris Dawes is on close to $500K a season. Collingwood is looking to trade off Dawes to another club to make room for Tippett, Collingwood may have to pay a percentage if his contract at another club to move him on."

Thats a bit like collingwood trolling their own injured player. Man up pies !!!

Pedersen was picked up the year prior.

I prefer Pedersen as a player to Broc. Very different ruck styles though - Broc is a tap ruckman, Pedo more your crash in with a leap type. I like that Pedersen has a few more strings to his bow though. They tried to swing Broc forward a bit during the year but its definitely not his comfort zone.

I would have thought if he had shown enough at Box Hill the club would have drafted him given we were looking for someone of that ilk at the time. I remember one of the big blokes that were with BH but went elsewhere was suggested to be too slow on the BH forums but can't remember if that was in reference to big Cam or not.

Don't mind the look of Lake, to me, he seems like the perfect player to come to the Hawks. He would lose any attitude problems that have come about from being the 'lone wolf' down back, thanks to our defence with Gibson and the like helping him out.

The cost of living bonus for Sydney cannot be justified by the AFL. I believe statistics show that Brisbane and Adelaide may have a lower cost of living therefor, following the AFL's logic (an oxymoron) clubs from those cities would have a lower salary cap. Perth may have the highest cost of living so, again following the AFL's logic, West Coast and Fremantle would have a salary cap advantage.

Come on AFL leadership (gee I really am into oxymorons now) own up and admit that Sydney get the benefit so that they stay near the top of the tree and therefor a more presentable product for the Sydney market and at the same time justifying the expansion into Sydney.

Whilst on this, does Brisbane still get a salary cap advantage?

At the risk of being a smartarse, who are the Like? I thought the absense(absence? absinthe?) of 'the like' is the reason we'd be getting him in the first place.

Probably, but it's counterbalanced by them constantly having to pay a fortune for player contracts for players who are no longer on their list

Surely you jest, but if not can Hawthorn pull the same con?

Re: the 500k for Daws, the article is misleading as his salary is broken down into two parts
400k is for his internship work as a law student in settling cases for team mates
100k is for his footy ability

From what I have seen recently. Dawes isn't even worth 5 cents. Given that Q.L has just landed in Eddie Land says 2 things to me.

1. Cloke needs help
2. Cloke needs help and Dawes ain't it.

Absence is correct haha.
Well, I would say that Gibson & Stratton are great 'third man up' spoilers ('the like'), but are not as good when held accountable for a player (see Gibson on Podsiadly). If Lake came in, not only would Gibson and Stratton have easier (& smaller) players themselves, they would make life easier for Lake by not necessarily being needed to stick to a man.

Questions floating in the cranium..
1. Do the Hawks need a bigger bodied defender? Can we go into 2013 with what we got?
2. Do we need any more run in the midfield? Schneider or trade/draft?
3. Can Puopolo rise up from his finals performance and provide us an avenue we missed...or will Ozzy come back and bring that mongrel toughness goal kicker we need up there...or should we look elsewhere. Amos Frank? Wanganeen?

When you consider opposition key fwds generally play well against us, almost always, it's a fair assumption that maybe we do need a bigger body playing down back.

2. Do we need any more run in the midfield? Schneider or trade/draft?

We could do with more midfield options playing more game time in the middle to cover the inevitable decline of Mitch, Sewell & Hodge.
Hill, Ellis, Savage, Rioli & Breust come to mind but they are all lightweights in comparison (ie can be easily bumped off the ball). Hopefully Whitex can take another step. Sydney seem to have a dearth of solid mids.

Poppy is limited I think and Ozzy is 30 next year. We have plenty of crumbers mentioned above who I'd like to see rotate through the middle/fwd line. Poppy & Ozzie will be depth players you'd think if Hill can take a senior spot.

worried about wellingham potentially being traded to w.c or freo , where does this leave bud at the end of next year? out of contract maybe looking to return home to play along his best mate , thats one contract id like to see done before the start of next season
