do not want mitch brown, when mckenzie was out and he had to fill a role eagles supporters couldnt wait for him to be out again , shoenmakers is already a better defender and we would be made to pay overs to lure him, already had knee recon also , i think lake is someone we should pursue had a good year for a team where the ball was getting pumped into the 50 consitently, and we should look to draft and actual key back in this years draft to develop, instead of wasting picks on medium size defenders such as kelly , bosely, litherland who will never be that gorilla

Did you watch Mitch Brown hold his own against Buddy?

You missed the observation that Gunston was going to be a regular feature of our best 22 and kick 30-40 goals, be the next Willo and carry us to a flag. So close, so close...

I thought Broc was good in the few games he played. Boumann never got going though.

I've always been part of the "well show me a better option" crowd - but when you see Collingwood pick up Tarrant, Ball, Jolly and Lynch you're entitled to ask "why can't we do that?"

EDIT: yes I know we've got Gibbo, Hale, Gunston and Burgoyne - but Collingwood's ability to go out and get one of the very BEST of the player type they need is becoming quite amazing.

You are absolutely correct, I did forget Jack.
He was one of the real wins for the year - an absolute revelation. What a smart footballer and he can kick more goals than points and always seems composed. He was a massive win of the trade period last year.

Zac Clarke? Yes. I rate him highly. He has so much upside and is a highly skilled ruck/forward
Mitch Brown? Yes. Big strong defender who can play in defense and up forward.
Tayte Pears? No. To be honest I'd rater Luke Delaney from North Melbourne. Better option and much cheaper.

He has got long arms... :p

I am sorry I don't agree. What I was trying to say is that in my view our biggest deficiencies have been for 4 years ruck and KPD. We haven't recruited anyone to cover these deficiencies not saying that Gibson, Hale, Burgoyne have been bad, just they don't cover these gaps.

It's all well and good to say we need a whole team defense, which I agree with, however I have watched too much football over the last few years where the easy game plan against Hawthorn is to bomb it long into the forward line to great effect. Cost us 2011, 5 losses to Geelong/Collingwood, same plan every time. Happened this year in the finals Collingwood and Adelaide games, nearly cost us the GF in the prelim.

Well I disagree with that utterly. Gibson has spent a whole punching the long ball to great effect. Schoey has been better than advertised; including in the GF.

We got sliced to ribbons through the middle the last two weeks of the season. That's what nearly cost us the prelim. Unencumbered delivery of the ball to leading forwards. Thinking a "gorilla" stops that is silly.

I agree... In my opinion picking up Lynch seems to be from the Voss school of drafting.

I think that if you want to pickup a free agent - it has to be either a, A gun player at around 27 years old. or b, a fringe player who is not being paid overs.

I think that they have got an old player, who is supposed to play a critical role in their team, and is probably also being paid overs - despite not being the best at what he does in the comp. Bad call.

I think the Q stick is better than Dawes.

Collingwood are absolutely desperate for someone to play the "Leigh Brown" role... he's probably the best available option

This is because for 4 years we have continually tried to fill our deficiencies with extremely weak soft gap options, last year was just another attempt.
Ruck - Skipper, Pattison and even Hale is not the genuine tap ruckman we crave
KPD - Boumann, again even Gibson and Stratton do not fill this need. Yes they are great defenders but don't fix our glaring weakness.

I feel like we just continually waste 2nd and 3rd round picks trying year after year to fix the same problems, surely it would be better the really go hard for a big fish even if it costs a 1st rounder.

Who are you suggesting we recruit?

You are wanting a gun Ruckman that we don't have to give up established players for... yet won't cost too much of the salary cap either

Which ruckman are available who are significantly better than Hale?

People said we should have got Jolly instead of Burgoyne, though Burgoyne wanted to play for us and Jolly wanted to go to the Pies

I agree but if Gilham and Boumann arent the answer, those guys need some kind of support. Keep going as we are and one will break down. As it is, Ginbbo cant produce two of his 'special' games in a row, nor should he be expected to.
If the support is complimentary rather than another undersized defender, then even better

I'd b upset if the Hawks DIDN'T contact Lake's management. We need to look at any avenue to improving the list and consequently, we need to explore all options. Not doing so would be remiss of the football department.

Check his commitment, check his attitude, check his pay packet and check if the leadership group are comfortable with him as an option.

There is no way Luke McPharlin will be welcome back at Hawthorn.

And as far as wanting to play in a premiership side, Freo probably aren't that far away from challenging anyway so i doubt if that old chestnut will be much of a lure.

Rumour growing legs that the Saints are heavily into Frawley from the Dees!

He is exactly what we need! If he is prepared to move then we would have to have a chat!

No idea what we'd have to offer though!

Get of the Frawley talk......it aint going to happen

1.He's still contracted.
2.Melbourne will be asking the world for him. almost impossible for us to organize a trade.

It just ain't realistic.

I didn't know that was the rumour, but I agree with your sentiments 100% and was just about to post on the same subject. A strong bodied All Australian defender with 8+ years left in his body. I would throw the kitchen sink at Melbourne to get this deal done. Use Spud Frawleys relationship to Hawthorn and Clarkson. This would really allow Schoenmakers to develop over the next few years on his defensive pressure on the number 2 defender and use his run and disposal more effectively. For me Lake would be the fallback position given his age. Does this idea have legs or do others disagree?

Frawley would be worth more than we can pay. Would be 100% ideal for us but he's still contracted and our picks are way too low.

I would like any and all of the following. In no order
1. Zac Clarke
2. Mitch Brown/Tayte Pears
3. Josh Caddy ( maybe dreaming but Mitch and Sewell won't be around forever)

By the sounds of it we don't have the trade bait to get this deal done. GC are playing pretty tough. I still maintain that Caddy for Whitecross and our 2nd (at a stretch 1st) rounder would be a win (GC), win (Hawthorn), win (Caddy), win (Whitecross).
