Frawley contracted until 2014 isn't he? If the rumor has any merit would should throw everything we can to land him, though I don;t we have anything the Demons would be interested in.

Rumours on the D&T board that Frawley wants out of Melbourne.

He could be a good option for us. Would cost a fair bit to land him, but it might be worth it.

Would happily offer our first 2 draft picks for Frawley... but don't think the Dees would accept it.

Not sure what we could offer them that'd make them happy about a trade

He's only a few cm taller than gibson, admittedly i haven't seen many melbourne games but is he the 'gorilla' we're after? Not rejecting the idea, just curious...

Getting Frawley would be tough because of what he is and his importance to Melbourne.

We would have to part with a good player and picks. Similar to what we would have to give up for an elite midfielder.

It's unlikely IMO. Melbourne would ask for something like pick 22 and Sewell.

Fair call, I was just curious as to whether he was the one we should be throwing everything at, forgot he was AA and i guess he's not much shorter than Lake who is the other one people are talking about.

Another way of saying that is ..... move on a jack of all trades (master of none) for a specialist centre clearance extractor.
Not sure if you watched the GF but centre clearances were not an issue (19-5). We needed players who could cover the ground with defensive running. Whitecross would have helped a lot.

You can never have too many undersized key defenders......
He is not undersized though. Look at Scarlett or Silvagni, two of the better FB's or recent times and they were both 193-4cm. To be a KPD doesn't mean you have to be 200cm tall, you just need to be able to defend well one on one and that's what Frawley does well.

Why would Melbourne want an elite 28 year old midfielder?

The Dees want players under the age of 25. To get Frawley we'd have to give them our first pick plus one or two players under the age of 25.

They may ask for 2 players... say Savage, Whitecross and our first pick

Really don't see how a deal could be done

Well as I see it we have Guerra, Burchall, Burgoyne, Suckling, Stratton, Murphy, Gibson(and if necessary Poupolo and Shiels) doing essentially the same thing whereas there is only one Mitch and he's 30. Any statistician will tell you that clearances are a vital indices in winning games and I worry about where ours are going to come from post Mitchell and Sewell (or in the case of injury).

Young and ellis bundled out with our first pick I;d feel would almost get the deal done, though Melbourne unless they really had their arm twisted Frawley wont be moving anywhere. For the sake of Melbourne you would hope he stayed.

One of Hallahan or Woodward will go on to be a top tier player. I have the same feeling I did about Woodward that I once had with Mitchell. I have no idea how he went so late in the draft. The only thing he needs is for someone to get him out of that wretched no. 36. Íf Brad Sewell and Mitch can peform for another year or so, there is enough in the wings to take over. On the otherside of the dice, if Caddy did find his way to the Hawks then in the next year he would still only be a fringe player.

Would any club consider playing Dawes as a big bodied defender? Just putting it out there.

It's good thinking. I wonder what the Pies would expect for him given that they are squeezing him out of their squad. Also fits the Swans recruiting model of targeting players who can't cement a spot in talented sides.

Looking at Carlton's list, they have a surprisingly large list of potentially key talls. Here are some of their younger ones.

Luke Mitchell: 198cm, 94kg
Levi Casboult: 198cm, 99kg (Just signed a 2 year deal with carlton)
Lachlan Henderson: 196cm, 95kg (Most likely one to stay as he is developed)
Pat McCarthy 196cm, 84kg (Too light, doubt we'd be interested in him)
Matthew Watson: 195cm, 99kg

Only thing is that Carlton are after Kurt Tippett, which seems to suggest that their key talls are not as good or aren't ready.

+1

The experiment worked a treat with Croad. Big bodied, somewhat lost forward. I think that with a change of club and increased sense of responsibility and discipline he could well step up. We are clearly in a mode of trying to secure a flag in the next 3 years, and a mature large body down back would be perfect. Unless the club can find a ready made defender ready to trade to us, then I think we need to look closely at him.

If we are converting forwards into backs surely we would just run Roughead back there. I see two options for us if we decide we need another tall, go after a ready made CHB or go after a Zac Clarke or the like and switch Roughead back. I think this years poor finals series could be the catalyst Clarkson needed to experiment with Roughie at CHB.

Both Whitecross and Shiels averaged more clearances than Caddy in 2012 and that's playing tagging or defensive midfield roles behind Mitchell, Sewell, Lewis and Burgoyne. I have no issue chasing young midfielders but not at the expense of ones already in our best 22.
