I don't disagree Mark, but people have to stop underestimating him. He's flawed and underperformed, but he's worth more than what the oppo supporters are spruiking. Sometimes I think we're starting to listen to them!
A Tarrant / Polak trade will do our midfield a world of good.
Would I be interested in two picks in the teens? Yep. Dunno how easy that is going to be though.

Rocca has had his best days. Tarrant is a HFF and its about time Malthouse manages to work this out. Then they could recruit someone to play in the goal square. That would make sence.

Didak is a forward midfielder.
Travis is statistically a worse shot for goal than Tarrant by miles. Rusling is about even. Both kids have talent, but have plenty to prove.
About the only case you can mount is for Buckley, but then he's better than pretty much everyone no matter where you put him and his zimmer frame!
In contrast, Tarrant had serious problems with his legs. After a layoff, he returned to average 17.5 possessions, 10 marks, and 3 goals 3.
What is interesting is that his statistics this year are very similar to his All Australian year, except for he had 67 shots on goal instead of 98. In both years he averaged about 55% on goal excluding out on fulls and whatnot. He was this year generally played a bit further up the ground, so that may explain some fall in shots at goal. As is the fact that in 2003, he had a peaking Buckley and Burns delievering the ball lace out.
We know his faults. His set shooting is below par. But then in 2003, we weren't slashing our wrists, as we were clearly top two or three in the comp. Now we're middle of the road coming from a spell at the bottom and we want to convince ourselves that he's to blame, that he isn't our best forward and that he's worth about the same as Ray or Polak. Sorry, but I ain't buying it!
An aside, I reckin FadeAway has started this thread just to see how far a bogus rumour can spread!

I agree with that sentiment Figjam. I would take Polak but not for a lot and certainly not for Tarrant. We should be testing the market for Tarrant but we should have a high ask.

considering the position you guys are in with the midfield i would really consider a made quickish midfielder.with thomas at least a yr away from the weight he needs to be and holland and didak out ,, and like someone said buckley and burns olda,... id consider a ruckman and first round

Thats the thing, I thought we would hardly be a factor come trade week, but with Dids gonna miss probably half of the season, and Holland a third, then we may need to go out and get someone. Nick Stevens? James Kelly? I dunno, but the odds look to have increased.

I think the underestimating of Tarrant is a massive factor. Opposition supporters love to talk him down partly because of his well documented off field issues but also simply because he plays for Collingwood.
I think that almost any opposition coach would take Tarrant in a heartbeat if he was on the market, and his trade value is significantly higher than what gets bandied around by the trolls on Big Footy.
And as for Tarrant for Polak? What possible reason would Collingwood have to do it?

He is a running youngster who is doing real well for a known star running team. If he can make it into the WB midfield, then he is as good for the Pies.

Don't need Polak. Not for Tarrant anyway. 2 years ago was where Polak was at his best, and even last year. He has had an interupted and inconsistent career, and Tarrant has had a poor year both on and off the field, but we all know what he can do, and that is more than Polak.

Is Ray what we need?? has been in the system 3 years and I have seen him play 1 very good game(final v us) and a few handy games. SKinny outside mid with great pace and an ok kick at best. Not worth giving up a kpp for even if tarrant does have his problems.
We need a ball winner with decent skills. With Johnson going into the guts and thomas, Egan , h shaw, r shaw and pendles all looking ok pace is not as big a problem as it was 12 months ago. We have enough outside players

F.Ray and dogs 1st round pick for Taz maybe but not Ray on his own. Tarrant is better than alot of u are currently rating him at i hope he goes no where especially to a team that knows how to deliver the ball properly.

The best your mob can hope for is to hang a bit on Collingwood while you can. Ok we only finished 7th. Hang away.
Look we may win a flag with Tarrant and/or Rocca but we’ll still be ahead of Carlton for all of that time. Not that Carlton is benchmark we will use to set our standards mind you but they won’t win a flag with anyone over the age of 23 on their list and probably even younger. The list is just abysmal and needs 3 drafts to get together a squad which will still age mature quality which they won’t be able to afford anyway. The light at the end of the tunnel is so dim at Carton everything thinks they forgot to pay the electricity bill and they have put it down to distant big 4 afterglow.sharpy36 said:

Farren Ray hasn't shown enough to warrant a direct swap for Tarrant. If they threw in a 2nd rounder IMO it'd have to be seriously considered.
A direct swap from the Dogs, how about Cooney? (never gonna happen I know, but I'd take it without much thought)
