Trade Talk 2013 - Yeo, Doc, Polec, Karnezis, Longer gone - Welcome Paine, West, Magwon!

Brisbane will use pick 34 which points to more delistings.

When you have so many going out the door there probably wasnt a lot of talk about trading players.

I wouldnt be surprised to see the Lions free up two or three more spots.

Assuming we take McGuane, I have only 4 spots left on our list. Is that what others get ? Currently that makes 33 & 34 not used.

If that's the case then we have effectively let Docherty walk to the Blues for nothing

Doesn't matter whether they were gonna use 32 in the draft or not, they didn't give it to us because they used it in a trade to Sydney.

Because the only reason Sydney traded was because they wanted pick 32 instead of 33.. it's just annoying that that we tried getting that pick for a week and then settled in for 33 while Carlton ended up using 32 for a small pick downgrade for Everitt.

I wonder if Kerr actually tried to upgrade some of our picks or if we just happy to step back after trading all our "homesick" players.

Let's hope we get some real gems in the draft. Bring on next season.

  • Billy crying in the changerooms after yet another loss
  • Polec playing in the SANFL all year
  • Docherty gets knocked out Round 2 against Brisbane and is gone for the year
  • Karnezis, well we won't see him in seniors action anyway
  • As for Yeo, I'm sure Zorko and Rockliff will keep him company in the forward line

Yeah, I'm sure such a simple idea never occured to him.

It's astounding that you would suggest something so stupid.

You never know. He might rate this draft and wanted all seven picks.

edit - We seem have to have a much better strike rate drafting a good player with a second round pick, and with so many we can draft someone who we wouldn't usually get since we'd know we won't get him with the next pick and/or preferred another player with that same pick - eg 2008 in this situation we might have gotten both Beams and Redden..

.. Just a thought..

Like I said in another thread They arent really much of a loss They werent the best first rounders I reckon we got Jipped when we did select them Apart from longer In fact I will go as far to say that they were the worse 1st rounders we drafted in a long time.

* Yeo and Karnezis were 2nd rounders but still not great picks We could have done better only reason they got all the attention was because they were our highesr Draft picks in the 2010 and 2011 Drafts thats all really.

Its seriously not that bad. We will be fine. The predictions of a certain demise on the back of this trade period are well over stated.

Voss was a drill sargent type of coach, it didn't sit well with some of the soft, Iphone 'pout and peace sign' type of Guys, thats the modern generation, we have to learn to deal with it better. I am sure Leppa will.

Doesn't say much about our talent scouts then

Bit harse i reckon.
Longer is very talented but wasent gonna jump leuy for the ruck spot
Polec unlucky with injury, still could be a could good
Karny should of played so much more senior games got robbed by voss i reckon
Yeo damn good pick up for pick 30
Doc was defiantly on the up

Do agree all of them should of harden up and stayed
Cement needed

Interested Polkinghorne is staying "for one more year" because I thought he would be a candidate for being delisted. Along with Wearden, Banfield and Obrien also Staker has not re-signed yet

No that was just evidence of Kerr doing a poor job at negotiating. Pick 32 is still unders for Docherty and he is worth between 15 and 20 imo on a fair trading table, but given our bargaining position maybe 20 to 25. We should have been able to obtain more and if not we should have made Docherty 'the sacrificial lamb' imo to assist us with future bargaining. If a player like Mayes comes out of contract will we see Port or Adelaide offering only a second round pick because of this. Or if Paparone wants to go to Freo, they may only offer up a third round now and stick to it knowing that we will probably eventually cave in where as if we had shown strength at the bargaining table Freo would have known that if they wanted him then they would have to pay more (say a second rounder).

Are you forgetting how he played Clark?

I'm not saying Kerr is the second coming. But I'm yet to see anyone tell me specifically how he would negotiate this better. These are second-year players that the clubs involve would view as nice-to-haves rather than players they have deliberately sought out.

Without knowing exactly what offers were made, I'm not seeing anyone being in a position to say they could do better in a complex situation.

Yes I do But like I said i just didnt rate them I think Longer and possibly Yeo were great at times but were too inconsistent Polec sounded like a cry baby and I didnt get to see alot of Docherty but the game/games I saw he wasnt that great Look they are gone now hopefully brisbane get some guns this year.
