i know i might get shot down here, but just wanted to know your thoughts on a possible trade for Pavlich.
I have a few mates who are Geelong supports, and god it's been a great couple of days, but back to the topic. Would Geelong consider a trade of Bartel for Pavlich, maybe even throw in a Shannon Byrnes or someone. As good as Bartel is, he is replaceable, your midfield is first class with Selwood, Ablett, Corey, Ling and so on. Plus Hogan seems to go ok as well and could be a good replacement. Problem is, Pavlich would probably require more coin than Bartel, so that gets me to the second part of the deal, Mooney to Bulldogs/gold coast/collingwood for a 2nd round pick. He would be taking up a fair bit of coin himself and losing bartel you should easily have enough to cover the deal.

So effectively all you would be doing is losing Bartel from the midfield and upgrading Pavlich to Mooney. Plus getting an earlish pick in the draft.

i'm sure there are a lot of bartel die hards on this thread, but think about your weakness, you have no power forward and the longer you wait for Hawkins to come good the older the likes of Scarlett, Harley, Milburn, Ling, Chapman and co are getting.

anyway, just a thought.

We don't do that.

Freo would never trade Pavlich for Bartel + Byrnes. As much as I love Jimmy, we would need to sweeten that deal to get even close.

Mooney for a 2nd rounder is more realistic, but he is worth more to Geelong than he is to any other team.

Not going to happen.

All the big names are too attached to Geelong (or at least, I'd like to think they are) to ever be traded. I don't think the club will want to let them go, and I don't believe the players will even consider leaving for one second. Especially Bartel, who's a local boy.

If there was no loyalty card to be considered, I'd love to have Pavlich in our team. We can never have too many superstars.

I don't think we could afford him without making players take yet another pay cut. Honestly i don't think compromising our midfield to try and make a forward line is worth it. We need to rebuild our forward line i agree but need to try and do so without taking apart our midfield or defense.

Ok..my opinion but if we're chasing anyone for next year it should be Barry Hall..our premiership window is closing fast and Hall is still at the top of his game and is exactly what our forward line lacks..a proven goalkicker and hard nut. No point waffling on about poor Tommy, truth is he is playing like he is still on the school football field. How you put some real fire and agression into him is what the cats have to work out. Even if Hall plays for a year and we win a flag it will be a great investment. Would allow us to send Tommy to Centre Half Back for a year...might be the making of him

Your first line provides you answer - could have saved us all the trouble of reading the rest of your post. as the fat wog said to the skinny wog: "chk -chk -boom!!"

Barry Hall would more be on our radar I think. He'd be after 1 more year - one more shot at success. We wouldn't have to pay him a great deal, for if he was after big money he'd go straight to boxing.

I don't know which games you are watching?

The ones where he is showing real improvement. Playing in the ruck, taking grabs and gaining possessions is a fair improvement from doing absolutely nothing in the forward line.

Has gone up to mid-teens disposals per game, adding between 4-7 hitouts and has continued to play a lead up role with an average of 6 or 7 marks per game.

He obviously needs work on kicking for goal, but the above is a definite improvement considering his game against St Kilda.

What have you been smoking dude - Fremantle would require 3 1st round draft picks in this coming weak draft minimum and there is no way a club could come up with that. That aside, why would we trade one of most loyal players, our captain and our best player?

Don't need him.

Tommy is the goods, looking better and better. Bartel is a Cat through and through, would hate to see him play in another uniform.

Some good picks in the draft and we are set for a while.
You're right we dont need Hall..so what if neither of out key forwards can kick a goal from 20 metres out...so what if Hawkins doesn't have to body strength to out mark a rover....or give a consistent pack contest when the ball goes in long.....and so what if we dont win another flag for 10 years....hell Tommy will be the man to take us there, problem is by then Ablett, Bartel, Ling, Corey, Chapman, Scarlett etc etc will all be retired...me I want flags NOW and anyone who honestly thinks Tommy can win us one right now or next year is drawing a long bow... Big Bad for me...:thumbsu:

The only way I would see it happening would be in some kind of three way deal between us, Gold Coast and Freo that would involve Ablett going to the Gold Coast and Pav coming to us.

I really wouldn't like to see Ablett go, but if the $$ are too hard for him to resist, Pavlich would be a pretty decent inclusion.

The thing is, if you take one of the stars out of our midfield, we still have a pretty awesome midfield. If you injected Pavlich into our forward line, we could probably stay up in the top couple of clubs for another 2-3 years.

Our midfield is only so good because we have Ablett in there. Selwood, Bartel, Corey are still a good top 3 but lose Ablett and we lose our dominance. He is the best player in the game.

I would love to have a crack at Pavlich but he wouldn't be cheap.

I think it would probably cost us Corey, Taylor, Gamble and our 1st 2 picks. Having said that I would to it.

The more getable player for the cats is Matthew Lloyd. A great kick for goal who would be cheaper to get and would love another crack at a flag and according to reports is at loggerheads with Knights. Would be able to get him for Gamble and a 2nd rounder. 2010 Lloyd at ff, Mooney at CHF and Hawkins and Ottens rucking.

How old is Pav? 30 yet? IMO he is a selfish player, who when has needed to ABSOLUTELY stand up, hasnt. Flat track bully. We dont want him. Not at all, and CERTAINLY not for Bartel. Shit I would take Bartel EVERY day of the week ahead of Pavlich. big fish, little pond. I'd tear up my membership if we went for a deal like that.

Just off the top of my head I would say the dockers biggeest ever game was their 2006 prelim final against sydney where Pav kicked 4 and was the dockers best ... is that standing up???

you have just exposed yourself as an ignoramous. Pav is a champion. Bartel is a great player too, but do you reckon he'd have a brownlow if he played for freo his whole career? I doubt it.

Hawkins kicked more goals in his first 25 games than Franklin did...give him time.

In 1-2 years he will be an imposing force.
