Cant understand why we didnt accept pick 46 or whatever ruchmond offered to us for Houli. We are better off getting something in return surely?

No, I wouldn't expect you to.

Atkinson going is already being counted upon, that in itself doesn't free up another spot.

Dyson is under contract.

Quinn is a rookie.

Try again...

Well why didnt we offer pick 47 + Houli for pick 29 than or put more players up for trade.

Atkinson, Lonergan, Williams, Laycock, Houli all should be out the door

Schammer is under contract aswell, doesnt mean they need to stay for that extra year.

Give Hird a year can see a few more drastic lists changes end of 2011.

Where did we finish !! 14th ? Talk about showing faith.

True, but the year before we finished 8th. And this year we have beaten Top 4 sides, and Top 8 sides. I am sure Hird is looking at the potential of the list based on what it has been proven we can achieve. If he is still not happy after the end of next year, there are many players out of contract, and the axe will drop.

I reckon we did alright. No point in getting rubbish from other clubs.

We've got a developing midfield which I reckon will start coming good next year.

Our depth will be pretty good with Zaharakis, Melksham, Jetta spending serious minutes there. Hocking, Myers maybe + the established rest will see us do quite well.

For the same reason we don't want any other teams hacks. Other teamsdo not want our hacks either.

Anti-climax but overall no disappointment really. There wasn't much on offer this year due to clubs locking up players because of GC. Not overly fussed with not trading Houli because that's potentially a pick that is used before us in either the preseason or National Draft which might see us able to NAB ($good plug$) a player we want.

There was no point in adding B grade and C grade players because one; we didn't have the list space and two; we didn't need anymore B grade and C grade players as there are already enough of them on our list.

Next year is probably the year you might see Essendon become more active. A new home, a full coaching panel and hopefully a better developed team could see us attract some quality players. Looking at the contracts up for renewal next year, there are plenty of spots that could free up (unlike this dysfunctional year where we didn't have a coach during that period).

Overall 8/10. Didn't add any more list cloggers and didn't lose any talent. If we got pick 29 for Houli, that would have been a 10/10 result.

2 ways to look at it Bombers fans.

1. Pretty bad that you are only taking 3 picks into this years draft...surely fresh talent was required. Obviously contract situations made life difficult...however you would've liked to have seen some list changes this year.

2. No team made a big trade. All that went down were a stack of fringe players looking for new opportunities. No team could say they landed a big fish. The biggest name was probably Tarrant...a 30 year old player full of injuries we already dumped 4 years ago.

So, why would you want to make trade for more list cloggers??? You already have plenty of them. Better to give James Hird a year to see if he can turn them around before making massive changes.

My theory....this trade week was hardly a success for Essendon. However, I don't think any team comes away with anything massive to add to the list. I suppose the real success for Essendon was re-signing the few uncontracted players that were required.

And got absolutely bent over in the process. The club should have taken a risk and landed this "big fish" they keep bullshitting to us about. To get a big fish you have to offer up some tasty bait.

Thats not the point. The point is there IS potential and ability in the list, and Hird will soon sort out who he thinks will cut it. He can't make that judgement in a few weeks. And their was no BIG FISH. Anyone decent to help our cause was signed up safe and sound. Do you not think the club would have had a go at getting one if they were available and suited our needs?

Sticky at the top of the board, but off the top of my head:

Dyson, Welsh, your boy NLM, Neagle, Daniher plus McVeigh and Hille to the vets list.

You would get rid of Daniher when his brother is far from over the line.
I thought your theory was we need to see players play-Daniher has barely played yet you have already written him off after 2011.

You basically just answered your own question - why draft more C/boderline B graders? We've got enough of them.

How is it pretty bad we're only taking three picks? Do you realise how inexperienced our list is? We're actually crying out for a quality player in the 23-28 age bracket of which we scarcely have, this isn't the U/12's - there's only so many young players a side can carry. We had the most players < 50 games (along with North) in 2010. A lot of our players are unproven/inexperienced and it follows naturally that they should be given time to prove themselves especially under a new coach and game plan.

We've had the best off-season so far

OUT:
Knights
Camporeale
Hickmont
Prescott
Richardson
O'Donnell

IN:
Hird
Thompson/Williams/Laidley
Goodwin
Wellman
Corcoran
FL coach

No list cloggers, morale immediately way up, new gameplan, actually playing some defence, hopefully a more spacious forward line.

Judging by the Ladder predictor on the bogan board, cough, sorry, I mean the main board, I "predict" we'll be grossly under-estimated.

DWD

How silly are you ?

Teams that finish 14th dont need to make many list changes.
