Pardon the intrusion lads, I've heard a bit of a whisper that Hawthorn are keen on Kane Lucas.

Yes, we are lacking a scapegoat given the improvement in Schoey, the demotion of Tom Murphy and the recent retirement of Cameron Bruce.o_O

I would say no to Pears and look to the draft, with young Joe Daniher going to Essendon next year i think we should target the tallest, quickest future monster back in this years draft, unless the club feel they can use perhaps Sam Grimley in such a roll as he is very agile but he may not have the ticker for they big league, they are the chinese whispers i am hearing anyway.

Many have said that we should target a midfielder with our first pick but I don't agree, I have been more than happy with our next gen mids coming through. As far as key defenders I think we need to look for beyond Gibson and Gilham both around 27 years old. See below regarding the profile lifted from Knightmares phantom draft of a good prospect we should go after with our first pick.

Tanner Smith (VIC – KPD)
Height: 194cm, Weight: 83kg, DOB: 09/03/1994
Recruited from: North Ballarat
Style: Eric McKenzie
Player comparison:
Range: 10-35
Profile: Best shut down key defender of this year’s draft. Very good at limiting the impact of his direct opponent. Gets great spoil numbers. He has some variety in his game and has the ability to play off his man, hold his own one on one or zone off depending on what he needs to do for his team. Most of his touches come from intercept possessions or marks. Athletically Smith is above average and has the speed and endurance to go with most players. Physically still has some way to go so give him some time. Skills on the improve. Has added some marking and running to his game this year and is starting to go from purely a shut down player to someone who increasingly can also provide some rebound which is a real positive but he still looks best as a guy who will be able to take the most dangerous opposition forward and limit his influence.

You are right in that we need to recruit a KPP however a player drafted today will not likely be read for 3-5 years. Our premiership window with Buddy, Roughy and the rest of our core is probably open for up to 5 years. Mitch, Hodge Sewell, Burgoyne etc. may only have two more top years. If we are to keep our window open we need to ensure those players are replaced first. No doubt Bouman and Grimely have been disappointing. I suspect we will need to find a KPD via trade in the next year or two to support Shoey going forward. We could always swing Roughy back and play Buddy and Gunston as forwards which gives us a pretty good spine even if we don't recruit to replace Gibbo.

Hooker Carlisle Pears Gumbleton Fletcher Hurley Hille Ryder Bellchambers and Jo Daniher just isnt going to work for Essendon.

Pears is the one that is out of favour.

I would get involved in the Caddy deal to help make it happen and this is gonna get the ferals on here excited but here goes.

Sewell to Gold Coast
Caddy to Essendon
Pears to Hawthorn

Hawks right now lose the most from the trade however long term we may just benefit the most.

You don't see a more pressing need to get a quality, young and quick midfielder to start replacing the aging on-ball trio?

Wouldn't mind getting someone who we can really use as a 100% stopper. Lonergan is the prototype here - comeplete lack of offensive ability, but he allows all the other players around him to be much more attacking.

Who fits that mould that we could drag over to Waverly?

Tom Murphy? ;)

Many others certainly do see an extremely pressing need.In that scenario we would be better swapping Sewell for Caddy.

I don't see the midfield as a pressing need, Lewis, Riolli, Whitecross, Savage, Ellis, and even Birchall on the weekend were more than capable. I just think we should be bold and use our first pick on someone like Tanner Smith and hope like hell he can develop as quick as someone like Tom McDonald from Melbourne.

IF we trade Sewell I would MUCH prefer we get Caddy than Pears.

It was an ordinary suggestion the first time.

Why would we go after someone who can't break it in the midfield for Carlton? If we are going to use the 'p' word we may as well go to the draft

We all want an athletic KPD who can beat his opponent one on one but can also run with - get shoenmakers on the gear as soon as our season finishes and he'll make up the 16kg differential that Hawkins currently has on him.

Problem solved.
