we arn't active during trade week ,because we have such outstanding and talented players!

Talented players are acquired during the draft, not on the trade table.

The only time to be trading is during a premiership window (i.e. Stinga and Chick, the Pies targeting Krak and Tarrant) or for a young gun that wants to return home.

Tell that schizen to the Pies, tell Jolly.

Out Jolly in Fraser = no flag.

Draft picks take 5+ years unless you get the very rare Luke Ball scenario.

Bluey has never been at Richmond ??

Christ sake these threads give me the shits. Ebert's 20....20!, played 54 AFL games can find the ball and with a bit of improvment in his kicking will become a very good player. But no, hes hit the wall, has no development left in him whatsoever, lets trade him out for another fresh faced youngster whos guaranteed to be a super star from the get go and has the benefit of being a whopping 2 years younger than him.

:thumbsu::thumbsu: so true :thumbsu::thumbsu:

Is Ebert the only player on the Eagles list another team was interested in.
Our kids are promising, but other teams dont see the value so many of our posters do.:rolleyes:

Did you miss what he said about the premiership window?

Uh - Jolly is the perfect example of when to trade as I explained above.

Pies top 5 players (Pendlebury, Swan, Thomas, O'Brien and Maxwell) were all draftees.

The catalyst for Freo's resurgence is a switch from trading to focusing on the draft.

Pure speculation from myself here but the thought has crossed my mind that the reason that Port are showing interest in Ebert is that they want to, as i call it, "Dalziell" us. I reckon in Motlop they have a player they don't want and who wants to go home but who they want something for but know that we don't really want. So the idea is to find a player at the desired destination club of said player (in this case with Motlop and with Dalziell that club is us) who is O.K. but short of being A grade/totally out of bounds for trade as far as the other club is concerned. Talk that player at the other club into putting uo his hand to come to you (using money if necessary) as Brisbane did with Staker and Portmay be with Ebert. And then try and force the player you are trying to get rid of and trade out on to the other club as the compensation by saying that since they don't have applicable draft picks to trade or any other players on the list who want to go to the eagles so we will just have to take what is on the table.

They will obviously know that we don't want Motlop but they will be rolling the dice and hoping that he may be enough of a compensation to grudgingly get the deal done. They will bank on us feeling pressured to just take it and cop it on the chin just as did with Staker/Dalziell. It's a clever way of trying to get something for a player who you don't want and who is going to leave whether you like ot not when if you just used normal trading methods of putting him on the table and taking the best offer another club made you would probably get nothing and lose him to PSD.

If Brisbane hadn't courted Staker and got him to put his hand up to go there and had just come to us with Dalziell and said "what will you give us?" i reckon we would have not even made them an offer and would have been prepared to just maybe try and get him in PSD. Wheras because they did things the way they did they got a 100 game KP player who finished top 10 in the B&F this year.

^^ I think you are correct GM about the Motlop/Ebert connection. Allthough they will probably enquire about Ebert for the next 10 years...

Anyone think Houli is a chance for us in the PSD?? surely he would be a good pick up! I think he is pretty strong willed about landing where he wants to go but IMO its worth having a chat to him if the trade's dont work out and he has to nominate.

I think he could be a pretty good player in his suited position.

Apparently we were very interested in him the year he was drafted.

i'd really like to pick up houli.

seems a pretty good mover with a decent kick. cant say we've got too many of those.

depends whether or not he'd want to come to perth, hopefully we can convince him.

on the afl website they said port would only get walker if they traded motlop and he is only keen on perth and apparently there have been interest.

im worried we are the interested party:(

There was another article somewhere stating there'd been interest from Melbourne but not from Perth.
Accordng to media here in Adelaide, Geelong are the only Vic club showing interest in Motlop (so he can play with his brother, Steven)
Been a few Brad Ebert articles in the paper but I'm still yet to see a suggested trade between anyone/anything, let alone an Ebert/Motlop trade.
Can't have much ground if even the newspapers aren't thrownig things about.

Few things written about Adelaide & PA not wanting to part with their first round picks for their targets (Jacobs, Walker etc)

Hardball will likely land a number of clubs with nothing, or a last minute rush as a 2pm Monday deadline leaves little time to get deals done & paperwork submitted.

Jeez wish we had traded for Andrew Swallow a few years back set to earn 900k at GWS if he chooses to sign. Some good footy talent in that family. Makes it suck even more that we won't get David. Imagine them two in WCE colours in 2011.

im pretty sure the afl made a rule that said we cant have cox and swallows in the same team dude - the footy show would have been booted off the air when sam newman joined the dots and became clinically unable to stop making hilarious comments

I'd consider chasing him too, but I think there's a reason he's nominated Richmond. Hardwick seems to be in love with him, and given the ride he's had under Knights, he needs to go somewhere the coach will show him some love.

Will never happen. WCE were extremely keen him in his draft year but were completely spooked by him basically telling recruiters he has no interest moving interstate due to religous and family reasons and would consider quitting footy if WC drafted him and at least would definitely seek a trade after the first year.

I remember Clancy Rudeforth sending a letter to all clubs saying similar things, wasn't he threatened with being stood out of the draft that year if he didn't retract?

Putting it in writing, I think, would be the difference there. It's one thing telling clubs you don't want to go to them, and another thing again in sending out letters. The AFL have no choice then other than to take some sort of punitive action.
