Because in the simplistic world of the passionate Tiger supporter (which we all are), a player is either a gun, a young kid who shows promise, or a favourite player (for some reason or another).

If a player doesn't fit into any of those three categories he is, by definition, a dud who should be banished at the first opportunity!

So i'd say Connors and McGuane are not favourites of many posters at the moment. :)

Personally I thought Connors was good last year. In the same boat as Morton really. McGuane is not as bad as some think, but the gap between his best and his worst is fairly large. A bit like bloody Paul Bulluss actually! In any case it would be foolish to get rid of him unless we get a replacement. Key defenders don't grow on trees!

ah if only it was that simple.
there are some of us who actually look at their strengths weakness and compare their performances to other similar players in the comp. because of these things connors and mcguane will never endear themselves to some of us. hmm glass half full does sum them up.

Yes but he fails to subscribe to the values of our club. He's unprepared, doesn't work hard enough, is a moron off the field and has completely the wrong attitude to be a successful football player. Why a man with his talent is not playing every week is a fair reflection of all of these things.

to top that lot off hes slow has no motor makes terrible execution errors with ball in hand and has absolutely no defensive side to his game.

its funny hearing people say he had a good yr last yr.
despite the possesions and the luxury of just floating around the hb line where my granny could get a kick or two he was ordinary in so many areas of the game.
i for one never ever want to see the likes of him playing across hb.
and to be honest i dont want to see someone as unaccountable as houli back there either.

Re: Connors and mcguane want out

Draft a rookie who is a mobile ruckman, major project behind those two boys..
Tom Downie
Club: North Ballarat Rebels
Age: 18
Height: 205 cm
Weight: 95 kg
"Represented Australia in the World Under-17 Basketball Championships in Germany 2010 before playing football for St Patricks College Ballarat this year, then joining the Rebels at the end of the season for two matches, averaging 13 disposals, showing outstanding natural talent.

thoughts?

probably gone by our second pick at 35ish.

Re: Connors and mcguane want out

There's no point using our top picks this year on a ruckman and then spend 4 years developing them, we need a ready to go ruckman.
Yeah if we get a Ivan Maric and have Gus and Derickx still there that gives someone a chance to have a few years to really develop.. As i have been told on here before the team is still 4 or 5 years from really pushing the best teams and being a realistic chance, so that gives time to try someone for a few years.:thumbsu:

Re: Tyson Goldsack

I got a little interested mid year when we were linked (what haven't we been linked to this year?!?!) to Goldsack, Trengove and a couple others. Then I remembered googling it to find tidbits of information and came across his website (pompous..?) where it said he's fine where he is. I just googled again and found this from that time:

http://www.tysongoldsack.com.au/?p=779
That website is hilarious. I particularly like the link to View My Awards, which when you click on takes you to a page that says 404 Sorry Page Not found. ROFLMAO.

totally disagree i think browne has done well to even get a game considering how raw he was when drafted as a rookie.sometimes they show little for 3 or 4 yrs. yes he has a fair few things he needs to work on but if every young ruckman was delisted after just 3 yrs few would ever go on and play afl.
Agree Santa- I know for a fact that he had pretty bad hip problems from mid season and could not run or jump as well as he would like. Has been operated on from what I am told and will be interesting to see how he performs next year.

Yeah give Browne a chance, he's a big unit and with some more confidence and aggression could be ok. He will never be that extra mid like a Dean Cox but we don't have one of those to push him out of the side yet

I would prefer to keep Browne over Gus - as at least he's 21 and could show improvement. But unfortunately Gus is contracted, which will mean Browne will have to go.

No, Graham can just sit at Coburg in the FP while Browne will play first ruck for them, improving himself.

Get rid of Gus next year cos of his contract

I see him as like Sam Jacobs, he will take time to mature and then we might have a man-mountain who domiantes the hitouts and has a fair-dinkum crack

Good call, I watched Jacobs play for the Bullants a lot and he was similar to Browne in that he dominated VFL ruckman yet struggled in the big time. Then after he had time to develop he took that next step and is now a very handy player. Browne had some great form at stages in the VFL where he was best on in a few games getting plenty of touches and wracking up hit-outs

Maric was ranked 4th in the afl for hitouts to advantage last year. That already makes him a better ruck then Graham.

It's about quality, not quantity people.

Angus may get more tap outs per game, but he rarely hits the ball with purpose. It's almost always at his feet.

Sign Maric up IMO. A four year deal for just 250k per season is a bargain.

Plus Maric isn't afraid of dirtying his pretty little jumper

Richmond can definitely carry 3 rucks next year in Maric, Browne and Gus. With injuries always a possibility it will provide good positional security

if we are honest neither browne nor graham will go anywhere this yr.both mayend up being not good enough.

with just browne, graham, and derickx we are awfully short on ruckmen even if we go out and get maric or some other mature type ruckman.and with that lot we certainly cant claim we have quality ruckmen.

if we had one or two highly touted young ruckmen we could go out and get a 28 29 yr old ruckman while those kids developed. unfortunately we have neither quality young ruckmen or quality mature ruckmen what a terrible situation.

this yr we definately need to try and draft a young ruckman of quality. so rather than cut ruckmen this yr we need to add to them with a ready to go mature type and a quality kid . imo this is the more likely scenario. i dont think anyone will be cut until someone stands up and demands the job

so the list will carry 5 or 6 rather than 3 or 4.
smart clubs are actually doing this.imo its something that should have been done ages ago.

finally imo in getting maric we wont be fixing any problems we will be adding an iffy maybe slight upgrade ruckman to the three iffy ruckmen we already have.

i have not mentioned Vickery as he has shown nothing at all that would suggest hes an afl ruckman.hes either a kpp or a ruckman we cant have it both ways to me he wont make it as a ruckman and hes shown enough as a forward.

how many ruckmen do you think should be on the list, claw?

If we bring in two ruckmen then at least one must go.

Might as well get rid of one now, has have someone run around at VFL reserves.

Maric is to small and does stuff all around the ground , forget IMO, if we take him a complete waste of a spot on our list. Keep Graham Browne and Derickx.
Pick up a big gangly ruckman who is 20-21 and been in the developing in the system for a couple of years, yet not made debut or an impact. We are a season at least away from challenging for a flag and there doesn't appear any genuine gun, Jolly/Mumford type, ruckman looking to move.
Would rather punt on a kid yet to reach anywhere near their peak than on a player 12 months older than we already have.

Anyone thought of either of the two young WB ruckmen in Roughhead and Cordy, both look extremely likely types. Would cost a fair bit but both are enterring the right age braquet with serious talent

I thought we should have been into Roughhead and Jarrod Grant last season , haven't seen anything this season which has changed my mind, although Grant does appear an unusual character ?
