Word out of Collingwood HQ is that Young is on the verge of signing (news from a friend that works there). Apparently HFC are happy for him to move on...

If he isn't in the top 25% of players HFC won't have an official opportunity to match any offer made by opposition clubs.

This is an annoying deal. Would love to keep Young but if he was to leave i would much prefer it to be to a Brisbane Lions or similar not Collingwood. I am also surprised that the deal we are offering him has been that frowned upon by him. I would have thought that with Mitchell moving onto the Veterans, Bruce/Bateman retiring and Gilham possibly moving that we would have enough to get Lake, keep Young and resign Buddy.

HFC will need the big $$$ to sign up buddy for a few more years...imagine the offers that he would be fielding if his contract is left until the end of next year....

Would you prefer to keep Young? Yes.

But lets be real here, Young is a borderline best 22 player. Whilst he has a number of positives attributes, he also has a number of negatives. Remember with Lake now in the team, someone will miss out.

If Young moving elsewhere allows us more flexibility with our salary cap, then its probably the right move. Especially with big Budwah coming out of contract.

Not the Pies! Anyone but the Pies!......or Essendon.......or the Cats

I've always loved Youngy's work, but it won't be the end of the world if he goes to eddieland. He has strengths, but some obvious weaknesses that can be exploited.

Hope that is True

Would Collingwoods offer be that much more he would jump over board from the club he promised to pay back? I'd thought Brisbane or Melbourne would be the more likely destination.

Looks like they will be clearing out a bit of cap space with Dawes & Wellingham. Young would more than likely forego some minimal $ to play for a contender.

Well I'm certainly not happy.

Same.

Young says his loyalty to the club that gave him a chance as a rookie after the 2004 season is almost certain to see him stay in brown and gold next year and beyond. "To be honest, I haven't thought too much about it," Young said last week.

"But I love this club, there is no doubt about that. I am looking forward to hopefully the next few weeks and then we will sort it all out."

Asked if he expected to be at Hawthorn next season, he answered: "Absolutely. I sort of want to repay the club for all they have done for me."

What's changed from the 16th of September Clinton?

True, but why is Young coming under scrutiny here for his defensive efforts when a "defender" like Suckling is far softer at the contest, slower and doesn't have a defensive bone in his body? Would rather Young stayed and Suckling was shipped. This is another Josh Kennedy deal imo, especially sending him to a rival. If he goes, send him to Melbourne or Brisbane.

as he is a Unrestricted Free Agent I don't think you have a Say on his Descion

Clinton Young averages 17.9 disposals @ 72%, 4.9 marks, 1.1 clearances, 3.2 tackles, 0.7 goals.

Wellingham averages 19.2 @ 63%, 4.4 marks, 2.9 clearances, 4.3 tackles, 0.7 goals

But Young is a spud and Wellingham is worth a first rounder. Fair enough.

Selective stats:

One has been playing off the half forward flank the other has had a midfield position on the wing.......then most importantly there is a silent stat, your ability to put your head over the ball at any cost........thats where it lies.

Young was actually quite a lot better in his ability to win contested footy this year. So many times there was a contested situation he would get the ball and burst out with his pace. I was skeptical on him being in our 22 this year, but the fact that he improved that part of his game made me see that he was.

Mainly because Young is a Free Agent and Suckling is not. Also you would have to imagine that Young is being offered quite a bit more (by rival clubs) then what Suckling is on.

I don't think you have to worry about a Kennedy situation with Young. Young is 26 turning 27. He is at his peak now, what you see is what you get. Kennedy was a good in and under player that was starved for opportunity, and was able to flourish in a team that places huge emphasis on contested football.

This is part and parcel of being a top team. Players will be squeezed out, to make sure we can sign other players (eg. Buddy). That appears to be what is happening here.
