Trading the #1 pick

All the talks were about him potentially wanting to go home to WA, but he's just re-signed so that's redundant now anyway.

There's a massive difference between pick 5 and 15, which by the time Bowes, Setterfield and Perryman get bid on, will probably be more like pick 18.

Pick 5 gets us a Will Brodie, Sam Petrevski-Seton or Tim Taranto. Carlton need some genuine midfield talent to complement Cripps. There's a reason Essendon want 2 picks in the top 10 and not 2 picks in the mid teens. We want a Darcy Parish, Marcus Bontempelli or Jack Macrae, not a Luke Dunstan or Tom Doedee.

If Marchbank had shown more in his 2 years at GWS, I'd agree that he and 15 was fair, but he hasn't. He's been injury prone and played 7 games. If we were talking about Jake Lever or Peter Wright, then fine, but this deal just reeks of the Kristian Jaksch trade which hurt us massively.

Totally understand the apprehension given Marchbank's lack of AFL exposure but pick 5 for Marchbank, 15 and Stewart is a reasonable trade imo - agree that the Jaksch/whiely/(19)boek trade that lost petey wright was a massive blunder but i really like marchbank, don't think many people doubt that he'll be a gun defender.

Should be able to grab good talent e.g. Venables at 15 & stewart is a fair prospect.

In the blues position getting Marchbank and keeping 5 would be fantastic and obviously best case scenario because I think pick 5 in this years draft is pretty safe in terms of quality but I honestly don't think trading it would be a terrible outcome

Whatever happens to pick 5, going to be interesting to follow that player for blues&dons supporters as he turns out to be a scot pendlebury, ben cunnington or jared polec..

perhaps the boys in the ivory tower in AFL headquarters will take exception to the bombers trading off pick one to the plastic franchise and give the PP to the lions at pick 1 !!!! ewe that would upset a few. not likely but is an option , think pick 1 isn't something the bombers can gamble with

we will do what the hell we want with it.

Better off with us than on a plane leaving Brisbane in 3 years after you waste it......again.......

Begging for picks now..How the mighty have fallen..You guys had your flags and concessions.
Not our fault the fools running it have sunk the ship..
Try telling Melbourne or Saints fans why you deserve a pick..you've had 3 flags in most of their lifetimes...
Time to stop begging and sooking...reeks

i would imagine any call on a priorty pick needs to be made before trade period concludes.
it wouldnt be fair if we traded pick 1 to GWS for 2x top 10 picks, for the AFL to turn around and give Brisbane a PP.
This wouldnt impact us at all once the trade is done
We'd have our top 10 picks. GWS would have Pick 2 instead of 1.

Odds on the AFL screwing over GWS for the Lions?

During their presser for our new coach, they indicated there should be some kind of announcement before the end of the week.

No way at all will it be pick 1 though.

makes sense. thats when it should happen.
Id have no issue with a pick after pick 2.
I imagine you will go McGrath/McCluggage with 2, then bid on Bowes at 3. If he comes, he comes. if not, Ainsworth, Brodie, Taranto, SPS - all good options.
May stuff up Freo a little, unless they trade 3 (now 4) to GWS for 7 and McCarthy.
GWS would be keener to get 1 from us at that point too.

Giants won't get either of those picks, Steele is highly unlikely to want to go to Essendon
Not that I care if Steele does or doesn't want to go to EFC, but has he or his management come out and said that he is, quote, "unlikely to want to go to EFC"?

Fair enough.

I'm not really familiar with the author of the article, so no idea how credible they are. Assume they've just pulled it out of nowhere.
No problems. I doubt EFC are that keen to use pick 1 in that way.
