Trading the #1 pick

More fantasy....23 is sufficient & will do.

Bombers fans are making shit up to satisfy their delusions of swapping pick 5 & 7 for pick 1.

erm....You were saying?

Bombers fans and Fairfax journalists.

Talks between the Blues and Greater Western Sydney for defender Caleb Marchbank are yet to significantly advance with the deal likely to involve an exchange of first-round draft picks and players. Carlton's pick No. 5 appears certain to be involved in the deal with the issue being what level of compensation comes back to Carlton along with Marchbank in that exchange.

What dicks.

The thing is, gcs are in a bit of a precarious position with those picks.
It all comes down to where Bowes is bid on.
If it's 2, 4 is lost and I think 6 slides behind 7. If it's after 4, 6 will be lost and 8
slides but they kept 4 alive
Their best bet is to trade 4&6 to us for 1 (or get next years first from Richmond) and use 8 to land a player
Then Bowes ends up being their 2nd Rd picks

It all comes down to what risks they take on Bowes being bid on

Once they have pick 6, I see them getting aggressive with offloading all 3 top picks for either players or future picks

Wrong, with the 20% discount 4 covers pick 2 and 6 covers 5. Both outright

I agree that we may offload all 3 picks but I hope we come to our senses as any gun players have to want to come and we will have to pay overs. But put 3 guns plus Sheer into that side along with Fionini, Miller, Ablett and Swalow and bang ready made side

Why in that case wouldn't they just trade Lobb and #7 to us?
I'm a little staggered you don't think that's a good deal as well. Marchbank and steak knives for a 10 pick downgrade.

All the talks were about him potentially wanting to go home to WA, but he's just re-signed so that's redundant now anyway.

There's a massive difference between pick 5 and 15, which by the time Bowes, Setterfield and Perryman get bid on, will probably be more like pick 18.

Pick 5 gets us a Will Brodie, Sam Petrevski-Seton or Tim Taranto. Carlton need some genuine midfield talent to complement Cripps. There's a reason Essendon want 2 picks in the top 10 and not 2 picks in the mid teens. We want a Darcy Parish, Marcus Bontempelli or Jack Macrae, not a Luke Dunstan or Tom Doedee.

If Marchbank had shown more in his 2 years at GWS, I'd agree that he and 15 was fair, but he hasn't. He's been injury prone and played 7 games. If we were talking about Jake Lever or Peter Wright, then fine, but this deal just reeks of the Kristian Jaksch trade which hurt us massively.

Yep
I would be targeting out and out guns to put around your midfield.
There wouldn't be too many untouchables with 4, 6 & 8 on the table. Esp in this draft.

Not really, GWS can always package up picks/players to trade to Carlton for pick with the likes of Marchbank/Tomilson/Pickett pick 15/pick 16.

Your constant bullshit of attacking EFC fans of trade proposals is what is appalling though.

"Appears certain" is journalist speak for "I have no facts but want to sound like I do." It is horse shit.

It's more than "Bombers fans are making shit up".

If GWS wants the #1 pick I'd only give it up for Lobb & one of their first round picks. It might seem like a lot but you'd want a really good deal to give up the #1 pick.

Can people stop with the half reading a sentence... Illiterate land stuff.

The guy said pick 5 for marchbank and 16.

But some people on here are more interested in being smart arses to people & dogging other clubs rather than keeping on topic.
I love how knobs are saying Essendon are unrealistic to trade with & us fans are dreamers. Last years trade period there was a segment on the hardest clubs to trade with & Essendon wasn't even in the worst 5. From memory Collingwood was said to be the worst. I'll try to find the segment because I think some of the big mouths on here had their club mentioned as harder to deal with than Essendon.

I trust you recognize the balded part as pure 'made-up' hypothetical speculation on your behalf.....We can all pull a rabbit out of a hat in an attempt to justify our BS agendas.

What's more stark here still, is the lengths you will trawl to in order to defend a mate....Let it go.

People always say we're hard to deal with because we once had the audacity to offer a future AA defender and a 2nd round pick for a B grade midfielder. But anyway

Is that the same deal where you approached a contracted player and tried to make his club accept players it didn't ask for or want instead of the top 10 pick they did asked for.

You have your rep for a reason

We approached him after he said he wanted to leave and we offered the best deal we could package in lieu of a pick we didn't have. Not sure what we did wrong or what else we could have done. But anyway.

Thats not correct, I know you are not going to see it this way just as I will not see it yours, so lets not rant any further.

A delisting candidate, if you use Essendon supporters' opinions of Hooker at the time.

Lol. Move on dude, move on.

How about the two clubs strike a deal to never trade with each other ever.
Would that make you happy?

You're right, he wanted to stay. hence him leaving the very next season.

for less than we offered.

Bloody Essington

Some rated him highly, some rated him as trade bait. Not sure anyone wanted him delisted.

FWIW I was happy to trade him as back then I still considered Pears as the greater talent. This is why I post on Big Footy rather than get paid for my great insight:cool::oops:

LOL Who said anything about him wanting to stay and we took the best offered pick which is what we had asked for, but thanks for the input.

Can we move on now?

:thumbsu: for the response instead of beating a drum.

I went looking on the Essendon board earlier in the year to gauge the feeling towards Hooker at the time after yet another one of these little spats. There were definitely some expressing a desire for him to be delisted in the year or two prior to that trade period, though I'm sure they would've rather him be traded than getting nothing for him.
