Lazz - whilst he was very good in the final game last year I didn’t think he’d be close to round 1. But I think he’s a lock now. His running power is something clarko would love. He’s worked hard on reducing fumbles, and disposal. He also looks comfortable holding onto the footy in traffic.

Sleevo - I thought his year last year was a little over rated. Good first half and then his scoring dried up in the second half of the season. Thought he wouldn’t be best 22 for round 1. Played well today and comfortably gets a game against the giants.

Chom/CCJ - stop this backline madness at once for Chom. CCJ is a completely ineffectual afl footballer 98% of the time. Get comben back as a forward ruck where he belongs.

Hansen Jnr - lacks significantly in just about every area he needs to do well in.

Goater - round 1 lock

Geez our defence is poor. We desperately need McDonald back that’s how bad it is.

Completely disagree on Chom. Defence a bigger hole and the logic behind the lower injury risk is very sound. He looked pretty solid there and he showed his high-level competitiveness with a big run down tackle and plenty of niggle. Definitely persist.

If CCJ can't stack up then we find another option there.

Like Biggy, Chom is a solid interceptor.

When it comes to manning up on someone, he has no idea imo

Excellent

- Wardlaw. Was everywhere, got forward, got back, broke tackles, won contested possessions and linked up well. Only downside was he got caught holding the ball a few times. Scary that this kid is only 20.

- LDU. Didn’t look like he got out of second gear but was still at his dazzling best. Racked up disposals, won clearances and got forward to kick a few goals

- Larkey. Kicked 4, handed off a fair few but looked good getting up the ground too. To be expected considering the competition.

- Harvey. Kicked 4, pushed up the ground and provided an option. Looks fitter, but just knows how to find the goals.

- Lazzaro. Setup half a dozen goals with élite distribution inside forward 50. Seemed more composed and showed his class. Cleanest I’ve seen him play I think.

- Xerri. No competition, but looked good. Stuck a few strong marks and his follow up work was excellent.

- McKercher. Showed why he is an elite prospect with some ridiculous link up play and 3-4-5 time efforts. Kicking was a feature, but lacked a bit of polish by hands.

Good

- Key Defenders. Thought all of Comben, Pink, Dawson x 2 and Biggie showed some signs. All had some good moments, and all had at least a couple of intercept marks. Hard to see who will be in the best 22 come round 1.

- Drury. Didn’t make the most of it on the scoreboard with only a goal or two, but would’ve had 6 shots on goal which shows he is getting to the right places.

- Maley. Isn’t a ruckman. But when he leads and gets up around the ground his contested marking stood out. Clunked a few really nice contested marks. Plenty to work with and a significant upgrade on J Edwards.

- Powell & Phillips. Both showed signs through the middle winning clearances and distributing by hand. The two of them drifted in and out of the game though.

- Stephenson. Played a good game across half forward, kicked a couple and setup half a dozen more with unselfish play. Pushed up to the wings to provide a contest.

- Zurhaar. Decent without being outstanding, didn’t play through the midfield at all, but looked to be playing as an undersize key forward. Kicked a couple and looked dangerous but he was playing on inferior opposition.

- Goater. Really solid game both defensively and offensively, cut off a few forward 50 entries with some nice positioning and intercept marking. Short and long kicking was really sound.

Meh

- Stephens & Tucker. Stephens had some good moments in the 2nd half but for two players who have been talked up all pre season, both didn’t have the required impact. Hardly seen Tucker all game.

Bad

- CCJ. Dropped a fair few sitters, got outmarked a few times by Biggie. Got in the way and went for the same ball as Larkey on more than one occasion. Flogged in the ruck by Xerri in the 2nd half.

- Pressure from the half forwards. The seconds side far too often found it easy to attack off half back. We desperately need to find some defensive pressure across half forward.

Ugly

- Thought the pressure for this game was pretty bad. Lacked a bit of intensity particularly in the 1st and 4th quarters.

- Bergman’s kicking was horrendous today. Not technique wise, but just execution. Would’ve had half a dozen turnovers at least.

- Taylor, didn’t get near it and when he did he had little to no impact. Got physically man handled by Wardlaw. Waaaaay down the pecking order imo.

- Turf. Thought it looked in pretty poor condition.

Geez you’ve only seen one intraclub. Anyone else you giving up on from just that?

I get what you’re saying. But he’s not playing back long term anyway.

So what’s the point in investing time to teach him when once Logue is back we have

Logue
Corr
Pink
Dawson
Dawson
Biggy

Up forward we have larkey and the ineffective ccj

Even scarier wardlaw is only 19

Lazzarro used the ball well, which has been a knock on him.
Need ro see if he can maintain that when intensity lifts.
Good on him if he can.
Lazarro’s issue was his ball handling. Every time he made the step up to AFL he became Captain Fumbles. If he can clean up that, he has a chance of making it.

At AFL that split second taken due to fumbling gets magnified tenfold.

I'm getting on the VFL side when betting opens, it's is going to have some very good players running through it.
When you add in Coor, Greenwood, Scott, LMac, PC, Ford to the mix we have a bit of depth on our list.

Well I just took the Larkey (Coleman) LDU (Brownlow) McKercher (Rising Star) Combo at 2870-1 and was reliably informed by Sportsbet, "The Chances are you're about to lose".......well no sh1t! I have a pretty good understanding of probability, and think "Nah, I reckon my chances are pretty good, that 2870-1 is a misprice!"

If you'd gone Warlord for the RS maybe sportsbet would have said "No way I'm not taking that bet."

LDU would’ve have 30+ touches today and he doesn’t even look like he is trying it’s ridiculous. Makes the game look so easy. On an even more positive note he has kicked 2 goals as well.
yeah, I really do like him for the brownlow if he and wardlaw can stay on the park,,,,he is just so eye catching breaking away from packs and through traffic, and if he isnt getting the inside ball himself, high chance wardlaw is and dishing it straight to him.
