If his wages are too high and they are trying to ship him off anywhere they can surely its time to let him go at a cut rate transfer fee allowing him to move on at lower wages and claim a significant signing on bonus to offset the lower wages.

That's not how AM do things. They wanted 40m for a 32 year old right back who wanted out and wouldn't budge on the fee at all.

When they couldn't sell Saul outright for £40-50m they tried to do a loan with an obligation to buy. United pulled out of the deal and Chelsea managed to negotiate it from an obligation to buy to an option to buy.

This is when clubs have sporting directors who do the transfers thinking said player is a star in the team, without working inside the managers framework. I get the manager has more important things to do than scout/scour reports but it's quite important really to have a signing fit. Worked at Liverpool

Get match fit, put himself in the January window, and potentially sign an extension with them. Makes perfect sense.

They're getting him incredibly cheap with zero risk if he remains crocked.

Think of it as a paid trial. Turns out to be a success, they offer him a proper deal. If he does his knee falling over while blind drunk downing jager bombs on a night out - then they are only liable for the 2 months of his contract which they can easily pay out and send him on his way.

There's really no downside to the deal at all.
