So like Alex Jones, I'm just asking questions.

Despite the hysteria about being 'knocked out', Shiel in no way looked concussed and played out the quarter. It was his shoulder that looked to be the problem.

Yet with no mention of the shoulder injury that clearly is stopping him from playing properly, he is diagnosed with a delayed concussion. And he may have been, but somehow I doubt enough to be taken off in a prelim if his shoulder was fine.

Why would they say concussion rather than shoulder? Possibly a weak attempt to fool Adelaide had they got through next week.

After reviewing the footage I don't think it's a bump. He just threw himself at the ball.

Personally, I think it was a bump. I still think the MRP should have wiggle room to say look technically it fits all the criteria for a suspension, but it was reasonable in the circumstances we are not going to suspend him. He couldn't tackle because Shield didn't have the ball, but was about to get it, and Cotchin was actually lower than Shiel and did everything in his power to avoid hitting him high. The contact to the head was also so minimal, which was why the concussion was delayed. I would actually like them to come out and say that he had no realistic alternative other than let Shiel pick up the ball uncontested. I can't think of an act less deserving of a suspension.

We also want the best players in the finals and had an AA mid on the bench for most of the game due to cotchins hit.

So Sloane will also be gone? Chose to bump danger. Got him high.

As far as I could tell the Shiel incident was just one of three clear bumps to the head of GWS players by Cotchin in the game today.

The Shiel one was the worst obviously, Shiel eyes on the ball, hands on the ball, Cotchin arrived late and went for a bump instead of contesting the ball.

Ellis also choose to bump and made head high contact with a GWS player.

How will the MRP/AFL explain them playing the GF if they are allowed to play?

The AFL is corrupt so my gut feel is both will play, just cant work out how they will explain it to the public. The "vibe" of it has been the theme of the AFL/umpiring this year, cant see that changing for the GF.

Not going to say he should or shouldn't be rubbed out as I'm clearly conflicted, but just want to clear up some confusion. Some people are saying Cotchin's previous fines were for different offences, and that 'the rules state you have to commit the same offence 3 times to get the automatic 1 match suspension'. Looking at Section 3.1(E) of the 2017 Tribunal Guidelines, I can't see any evidence to support that theory.

Exactly. And Shiel had no choice, unlike Cotch. He missed a prelim which could be the biggest game he'll ever play in his life, because of some over enthusiatic player being reckless.

Cotchin on the otherhand, if he misses, it was caused by his own actions (three times).
