Seriously though, is there a good argument for giving Cameron O'Shea another crack? At 197cm he could answer our needs for a genuine tall key defender.
The good argument, he is Cam O’Shea…

We need a gorilla, Keath type for one bloke - Hawkins. We had the third best defence all year in regards to scores against. I would rather Grundy again. But in all seriousness, Hawkins and Dixon are the last of the Dinosaurs, maybe the North Bloke will become a ‘Power Forward’ but your Kings, McKay and Tilthorpe’s are +200cm aerobic beasts. Structured defence seems to be the plan these days.

If the AFL tweak the 6’6’6 rule, to every stoppage you must have a forward in the Goal Square or 6 Fowards in front of the Centre Circle maybe the 1on1 dual will come back, until then it will continue to be the game as it is now!

Trent McKenzie nominated this week for mark of the year.

Vote for Trent here: Mark of the Year - AFL.com.au

Had a terrible year. Obviously there's been the injuries and has never looked quite right after that knee issue from round 1, but has been soundly beaten in all games he has played this year. And this was coming off getting destroyed by Naughton in last year's prelim.

If Pasini comes on I can see him getting delisted this year.

I like the fact that this is probably true that the club will have McKenzie (who is clearly our best one on one key defender) behind the guy who looks like he's playing on an ice rink, the guy who hasn't played a game yet, the guy who is slower than a literal sloth and the corpse of Tom Jonas.

I forgot about Skinner probably because he looks and plays like a top-up player. So he is gone before McKenzie. But Jonas and Clurey have been better than McKenzie this year.

Two mentions for TJ?
A sloth and a corpse.

Being serious though he can't possibly be the captain again next year, and if ( unfortunately it's a very big IF) there is a change in coach I suspect he may even struggle to hold his spot in the team.

The mckenzie who got stretchered off in r1, played the next few games with a busted knee because we had no alternative and was subsequently sent in for knee surgery the moment we could replace him?

Feel a bit sorry for McKenzie, he's been required to play an unsuitable role from the time he arrived and has probably done better than anyone could have expected. As an undersized KPD he's bound to get found out at times. I wish they'd play him up the ground, hbf or wing where he can use his long kick and decent pace to advantage, but that would need a modicum of imagination and common sense from our coaching panel so it's not going to happen.

He's better than both Clurey and Jonas.
Low bar these days, but true. We really need a 195cm+ KPD who can play next year. Said player taking the main opposition KPF, leaving Aliir free to do what he does best, with one of Clurey / McKenzie / Pasini as that 'short for a KPD these days' 3rd. Relegating Tom 'Slowest, oldest and shortest' Jonas of our KPD's to retire end of 2022. Or if he doesn't at least not Captain and told he's back of the line for getting picked.

Im not impressed with Mckenzie he does an average job at best what destroys his game is every time he gets the ball he takes ages to dispose of it and generally with a short side step kick (how stupid when you have a boot like his). He is as slow as a slug when kicking out and normally kicks it barely 25mtrs.
I get nicked off everytime he is in control of the ball. With a decent coach he may improve but lets face it with a decent coach he might be up the road.

PS sackhinkley!

mkenzie has done a brilliant job as our FB given he is not built for the role.

and which full back bombs the ball 60m out? maintaining possession is the key to getting the ball out of defence.

I think our best 22 absolutely has McKenzie in it at the moment. His intercept/contested marking is probably fractionally below the likes of Jonas and Clurey, but he does everything else better and his kicking is so much better that it isn't funny.

With Jonas, those strong hands and composure to intercept mark are probably the only thing keeping him in the side because as he's slowed down, his ability to go with a key forward is disappearing. Still intercept marks really well though.

Clurey is just sort of 7/10 at everything. Doesn't have a standout feature but probably doesn't really have a huge weakness, and could be the 3rd KPD in a premiership side IMO.

Who we keep and who we move on probably depends on how the new coach wants the defence to play. If we are still putting the "try to get intercept marks" slider up to 11, Jonas probably still has a place in the side.
