Who's been overlooked and is more deserving of a defensive opportunity than Ruscoe?

Madgen would be the obvious one. But mostly my concern is that we’re bringing in young guys with no form or confidence to draw from.

Does the choice between Madge and Ruscoe matter?

I am a fan of setting players up for success. From what I’ve seen of Ruscoe recently in the VFL, he’s lacking confidence and not playing particularly well.

Does the choice matter to the team’s chance of success? Maybe marginally.

Does the choice matter to Ruscoe’s development? It could go either way… it could send what confidence he has down the S-bend or it could be the only opportunity he’s going to get for ages, and he is better off having a shot.

I’m not against him, but I’m worried he hasn’t been banging the door down to make the most of the opportunity.

Without looking at stats, it doesn't feel like we've played many players this year.

To me, we've got a really clear best 22 - the most clear cut I can ever remember - due to our lack of depth. I think it's good to be using different players to rotate through as injury cover in the hope of increasing the number we can feel ok about calling on if injury hits at the pointy end.

Madge 1st game back last week. I think he’s done well to enter into consideration. He was played forward though. Does that change the thinking?

In terms of young guys with no form, that’s essentially our senior listed VFL players. I’m not as down on his form as some seem to be. Has had some sensational moments, in dispersed with some brain fades. Of the 3 medium-tall defenders, excluding Dean because he needs more time, Ruscoe is in front of Kelly and McMahon.

It could do, mate.

Fingers crossed Ruscoe has an epiphany and starts playing the way I think he can. He definitely has some AFL traits, and his kicking when taking the game on, instead of those dinky get-out-of-jail kicks, can be positively lethal.

This is what I wish too. I think there’s something missing in Ruscoe. He maybe gives up too easily. Is not
serious enough about footy to make the extra effort. Dunno what it is, but it’s not there.
Exactly. He looks like he's taking the piss most of the time. I can't take him seriously when he acts the way he does.

Iim interested to see if he has rectified this issue.

For mine they play similiar but different roles…

Madgen more a 2nd key back and a spoiler. Offers minimal offensive wise

Ruscoe better at ground level. More of a rebounder for mine. But can’t see him manning up as well on the big talls as Madgen
Madgen has never matched up well on big talls but Ruscoe at least offers something the other way.

Limited chances so far but has held up ok…

Everything he's done so far has been good bar one moment where he double grabbed a ground ball below knee height. Fingers crossed for him. I actually think he has a lot to give.
