Triple J Hottest 100 of the last 20 years

Remove this Banner Ad

The only songs from the '10's I see making it are Thrift Shop and Somebody That I Used To Know, and even those two will be lucky to reach the top 50.

I think Midnight City from M83 and Video Games by Lana Del Ray might get in, perhaps Pumped Up Kicks, Little Talks and Breezeblocks too .

none of those are shocks to me, drafted up a rough list of what the 100 I think will look like judging by what votes I've seen so far, and previous countdowns, both yearly and OAT...

thoughts thewitness ??
Some that you have missed that i think will more then likely make it are Beastie Boys - Sabotage, Nirvana - About a Girl (As long as it is eligible), Outkast - Hey Ya!, Hilltop Hoods - The Nosebleed Section. And maybe The Strokes - Last Night.

good calls on Last Nite (can't believe I forgot that one) and also Hey Ya!

Oh and I already had The Nosebleed Section and Sabotage in there, Sabotage is at 13 and Nosebleed in the 30's. Replaced Unfinished Symphony with About a Girl aswell, another top shout.

GY!BE, f*ck yes.

good effort there benji2 though I think you're giving too much to the newer artists. I don't expect to see Frank Ocean, Vampire Weekend, 360, Phoenix, Kasabian, Flume, Mark Ronson, Of Monsters and Men etc to make it.

as previous all time countdowns have shown us, this is where all the fans from the j's earlier come back and most of the newer stuff hardly gets a look in. Which overall I can't say is a bad thing :)

Hope you're right DaRenegade :), the slight cynic inside me compelled me to put those newer artists in - though a few of those artists are worth a place in the countdown IMO.

Not sure when Phoenix became a newer artist, been going since 1997 and just released their 5th album.

in regards to them having major exposure out here and such, people have only really known about them since Listzomania and 1901 and that was 2009.

can't see them making it tbh.

This is tough to the extreme!

I'm caught between voting for my true favourites, or cutting the obscure tunes without a hope for maybe borderline songs that may squeeze in

May end up choosing the latter...

Oh, and listening to the top 20 from 1998 the other day, could easily pick 15 songs right there!

don't listen to jjj but my bro wanted me to do it.
decided to stick with one song per artist (or else it woulda been like 9 ae tracks).

Souls of Mischief - 93 'til Infinity (1993)
Drive Like Jehu - Here Come The Rome Plows (1994)
Nas - N.Y. State of Mind (1994)
Autechre - Garbagemx36 (1995)
Underworld - Pearl's Girl (1996)
Electric Wizard - Return Trip (1997)
Godspeed You! Black Emperor - Moya (1999)
Aphex Twin - Windowlicker (1999)
Mos Def - Know That (1999)
At The Drive-In - Arcarsenal (2000)
Tool - Reflection (2001)
Radiohead - Pyramid Song (2001)
Sigur Ros - Untitled 8 ("Popplagið") (2002)
Apparat - Granular Bastard (2003)
Viktor Vaughn - Let Me Watch (2003)
Boris - Feedbacker (2003)
The Knife - Like a Pen (2006)
The Drones - Jezebel (2006)
Venetian Snares - Integraation (2007)
Isis - Threshold of Transformation (2009)

something like that!

My votes;
Arcade Fire - Wake Up
