Triple J Hottest 100 of the last 20 years

A bit over 5000 votes. I dont think there is much bias in this one especially compared to the annual ones, especially at the top end.

Any major changes since you put up your last top 20 the witness? do you still have Oasis to win with wonderwall?

At the moment it looks like only 2 songs from 2012 will make my count. Anyone want to take a guess?
Also people might think this is a bit odd but it looks very possibly that The Bloodhound Gangs "The Bad Touch" will sneak into the back end of my count, I doubt this will be replicated in the actually Hottest 100 though.

I know you do heaps of research into compiling this - and so I'm really fascinated to see how close you get.

I'd be blown away if Wonderwall wins given previous H100s of all time; I'd also be shocked to see Mr Brightside in the top 5 and Paranoid Android outside the top 5.

Think Wonderwall may plausibly get to No.1, but agree on all your other points nobbyscool. I'm trying to do my own predictions but it is very hard to go against thewitness' predictions.

Can't pick a standout No.1 though - any one of Last Goodbye, Wonderwall, Everlong, Paranoid Android or even Seven Nation Army could do it IMO, should make for a great countdown.

I just can't go past Last Goodbye - I think it should be the raging favourite to win this.

I'm only disappointed that Luxbet don't have a market. I only have 2 accounts, and I recently drained my Sportingbet one.

I would've loved to be on Seven Nation Army at around $21-26.

Wonderwall did really well in the past all time countdown, only beaten by alot of songs that are ineligible for this one, and Everlong, Last Goodbye, Hallelujah and Paranoid Android. It's a strong chance of no 1 imo.

as for the 2012 songs, I'd say Breezeblocks and one of Elephant or Feels Like We Only Go Backwards

Yeah you were right about the 2012 songs. Breezeblocks and feels like we only go backwards the only 2 I have making it. Thrift shop has quickly been long forgotten as expected, hardly any votes for it. Im fairly confident with Wonderwall, only been wrong once for number 1 spot, out of the past 4 yearly countdowns, but an of all time vote might hide some voting patterns.

TV on the Radio - Wolf Like Me
Animal Collective - My Girls
Arcade Fire - Rebellion (Lies)
Bon Iver - Skinny Love
The National - Sorrow
Neutral Milk Hotel - Two-Headed Boy
Queens of the Stone Age - Go With the Flow
Radiohead - Paranoid Android
Wolf Parade - It's a Curse
The xx - Crystalised
Gotye - Hearts a Mess
Red Hot Chili Peppers - Otherside
Silversun Pickups - Lazy Eye
Tame Impala - Half Full Glass of Wine
Arcade Fire - Neighborhood #3 (Power Out)
Lana Del Rey - Video Games
Active Child - Hanging On
Death From Above 1979 - Going Steady
Karnivool - Mauseum
Queens of the Stone Age - No One Knows

Is there a social sharing feature like last year's hottest 100? Or are you just compiling from forums, facebook etc?

I'm wondering if the 20 votes rather than 10 has let wonderwall leapfrog the others that were mentioned as beating it in the last of all time countdown? I would hasten that wonderwall is a more "popular" song than last goodbye, hallelujah and everlong but maybe not one which is loved by as many people. Thus more people would slot it into a top 20 than a top 10.

Gun stuff from thewitness with his Hottest 100 counting.

Very interesting differences between the Top 100 from older ones (which were more alternative rock based, but had more crossover to mainstream radio and had quite a few novelty songs) to newer ones (which are more indie but a bit more electronic)

With Of Monsters and Men - Little Talks as the #101 song.

Logic and thoughts:

* Wonderwall is the bookies and thewitness's favourite, ergo it goes #1 here.
* Expect the Top 5 to be close.
* This list relies a bit on the 2009 Hottest 100 of All-Time, ergo some songs being lower than others would put them.
* I would expect a major bolter to be in the actual list - how many people would've expected Bon Iver and TV on the Radio to make the 2009 Hottest 100 of All-Time?
* New songs will make it, but most won't go very high.
* Songs I'm surprised to put so high:
- Bon Iver - Skinny Love (low 2009 finish, not overly well-known)
- Gotye - Hearts a Mess (low 2009 finish, you'd also think SIUTK would grab a lot of people that would vote for this)
- 4 Red Hot Chili Peppers, given the only one to make the 2009 countdown is ineligible
- The Breeders - Cannonball (didn't make 2009, very old song so not overly well-known)
- The only 2009 song that is eligible that doesn't make my predicted list is Sex On Fire - Kings of Leon, which only made it (IMO) as it was a very recent release and was voted in #1 the year it was released. It doesn't have much staying power it seems.

If anyone is int

Not sure it has a big influence but "Hearts a Mess" being included on the Great Gatsby soundtrack has given it a mini-revival at the right time
