Called in alphabetical order.
I was joking.
Just so we're clear.
Honesty, don't know.Really , I thought it made sense, so guess im the joke. Then why call one before the other when you have p23 and p24. Must be some logic somewhere
Honesty, don't know.
Perhaps their IDs? Maybe Gardiner was numbered before Johnson?
Maybe they actually rated Gardiner higher?
Thanks for that. SW must have had a neuron drop-out on the night being so open. He's known as someone who keeps his recruiting cards very close to his chest. As he should.http://www.bigfooty.com/forum/threa...rlton-troy-menzel.981477/page-5#post-26486908
He said it on SEN on the night of the draft.
Hahaha haha ha
mehProbably our first and Smedts, I would think...
comparable with ablett juniors stats at the same age.I think there's only been four - take them out and there's only a moderate increase (maybe 14 disposals, 2 goals?) As I said, think he'll be a good player but not sure that's ahead of the curve for a half forward taken at pick 11.
And Shaun Higgins'.comparable with ablett juniors stats at the same age.
which prooves the point that stats dont tell the answer. Although Higgins also has serious talent and was hampered by injuries and a lack of fitness so not the best example here. A better one would be Adrian McAdam. And Shaun Higgins'.
Now there is a blast from the past.which prooves the point that stats dont tell the answer. Although Higgins also has serious talent and was hampered by injuries and a lack of fitness so not the best example here. A better one would be Adrian McAdam.

You want a seriously good start to your career?
McAdam's 1st Game V RICMOND
10 kicks, 2 handballs, 3 marks, 7 goals
2nd Game V SYDNEY
19 kicks, 5 handballs, 14 marks, 10 goals
3rd Game V WESTERN BULLDOGS
11 kicks, 1 handball, 2 marks, 6 goals
...and then in his 6th game he kicked 9 against Collingwood. Kicked 68 goals in 17 games in his first year.
Pretty handy.
Yeah, although the start of his second year wasn't too bad (just didn't kick as many goals).Fair to say he struggled somewhat once clubs started paying attention to him though.
Who knows. It could be even deeper than that.ID is sort like Alphabetical order , could be right. Gardiner as the the better player... well perhaps. Be a good question for Wells.
Indeed - reminded me of another recruiter who recruited Gareth Bale "Ruddick watched for a while before speaking to Bale's parents, Debbie and Frank. He smiles when asked how he knew who they were. "Little tricks. You watch a player and see who he goes to between games. Then you go and stand next to them and say: 'Enjoying your day? Oh, is that your lad? He isn't bad, is he. Would he like to come and see us at Southampton?' I try to keep it short, because other people could be watching me. Get a phone number and get away as quick as you can, otherwise you might alert somebody else: 'Who's Rod talking to?'"Thanks for that. SW must have had a neuron drop-out on the night being so open. Only seen Schroder once in Vfl but was impressed, he stood out in regards to most of team, can't rem who the opps were but it was 1 of the few televised games....If I was Carlton I'd be all over Schroder, better than any of their young midfielders and at least has some fight in him.

Hmm @ this stage not sure who else I'd like to see there but think Hawkins/Kersten are 2 of 3 I'd prefer..I think that it was Jester who suggested that he would like to see him play forward pocket and hang around at the feet of Hawkins.
Gardiner was a very likeable prospect at that stage, a private school boy with good skills, good size, well respected. People knew SJ had foibles even back then.ID is sort like Alphabetical order , could be right. Gardiner as the the better player... well perhaps. Be a good question for Wells.
I understand that he is still yet to sign, SoG.I mentioned a while ago that we were speaking with Troy about the possibility of coming to Geelong and that he was interested....then I heard he put pen to paper with Carlton, and it wasn't to eventuate anytime soon. Has he signed, or has it been delayed?
He's interested, we're interested, but it'll take something special to get Carlton to trade.

Never recovered after Colbert (in one of his first games) tagged him into submission.Fair to say he struggled somewhat once clubs started paying attention to him though.
