I thought this exact thing on the night while watching it on my phone. Surprised it hasn't been mentioned in amongst all the other dud calls that have been referenced during the week.
Of course the morons in the box seemed to think it was probably out on replay, to which Lingy (down on the boundary) immediately called bullshit and claimed it was never out.
That one's easy for the commentators and general muppets to argue because the ball always looks out on TV because of where the cameras are, and the curvature of the boundary line. Saw the same thing with that Roughead (I think) goal/assist a few years back. From memory Eddie had it in front of his chest the whole time which means it was probably on the line at most.

Eh I wasn't grinning, to have the free kick count sway that heavily in our favour and win by under 3 goals considering how well we started, almost felt like a loss.

Back on topic though, I don't want this garbage, I want to win knowing that beyond all doubt we were the better team and when things like this happen it really throws a cloud above a great game of football.

He's umpiring in Launceston this week, hopefully he stays there and only umpires the 3~ games that are there per year.

Revoke his visa that'll **** him.

Remember Tom Lynch was having a tendency to lead with his head and nearly got badly injured at the Gabba. Thankfully he has removed it from his game.
David Teague was asked about this last night and mentioned how they have wanted him to stop doing this due to concussion issues.

He also said they would never instruct players to play for these free kicks due to risk of head injury. I reckon our players had that message rammed home seeing Reilly get injured at training and what a head knock can do.

Why put yourself at risk, when there are enough chances to risk a head injury in our game anyway.

Unfortunately it will take a severe injury to a ducker during a game for the AFL to take any real action on this.

Line ball I guess, 50/50.

But being called by the boundary umpire miles behind the play from where it happened and therefore clearly guessing and well after the play had moved on got my hackles up. Almost as much at the dogs player (Stringer it may have been???) doing the exact same thing down the other end about 1 minute later, only looking well and truly out this time, and not a peep from umpire nor commentators.

Was about then I decided that for the safety of my phone and sanity that perhaps I'd better switch off and go for a quite walk before I really lost my shite.

Strangely enough that's probably when I completely lost my shit and nearly threw my phone at the big tele in the pub. I was fuming.

Gee i thought Pannell was obvious... you should have seen the foul call in the NBA playoff just then!! Dwayne Wade put up a jumpshot that barely hit the ring, no-one touches him and yet he falls backwards and takes a dive on the ground. The ref waits until the shot is missed and rebounded and then called a foul - 2 free throws.
Worst call I've ever seen. Made the call with 2 minutes left in a playoff game hanging in the balance. Match fixing attempt much? Wow.

Are you familiar with "Game 6"? Western Conference finals, Lakers are at Sacramento, it's 2002, Kings lead the series 3-2. The game has gone down in folk lore how terribly officiated it was with many conspiracy theorists still to this day are saying the game was rigged to get more money by ensuring it went to game 7. The biggest eyebrow raising fact from that game was Shaq had some 20-25 shots at the foul line and managed to make most of them. Of course the real contentious issue of the game was the last play when Kobe elbowed Bibby in the face and the ref called a foul on Bibby. That really topped off a night of bad officiating, there are many people in the US who think the NBA rigs games with their officiating and is as corrupt as anything.

This immediately sprung to mind

Considering your avatar, I'd be disappointed if you didn't :p

Yeh I'm aware of that one. The NBA has been rife with cheating over the years. As an association they have tried to cover it up, but sometimes it is so blatant it isn't funny. I remember in Dwaynes first championship he went to the line an insane number of times. He was a great player, but the assistance from the refs that year was incredible.

Irate members of the Adelaide hierarchy were instructed by coach Don Pyke to remain publicly silent over Luke Beveridge's 'disgusting' barb, which the Crows have taken personally and which has intensified the bitterness between the two clubs.

And yet Adelaide bosses remain adamant neither coach Pyke nor CEO Fagan - in a tweet directed to a supporter - questioned the integrity of the umpires nor directly complained about the officiating of the game.

Fagan communicated as much to Stevenson but the Bulldogs boss said that Beveridge would not be apologising to the Crows. Playing down the dispute Stevenson backed his coach and said he agreed with his comments regarding the criticism of umpires.

"Andrew gave me a call," said Stevenson, "and we had a good chat about it and it was fine. We will not be over-reacting on the basis of one word."

The two clubs were at odds after the 2015 elimination final and subsequent investigation over alleged shared information between the Talia brothers. Fagan and his club were frustrated at Bulldogs chairman Peter Gordon's micro-management of the wording of the investigation's official outcome.

The three most interesting parts of the article there. Caroline Wilson stating that it was Pyke who instigated the silence about the hypocrisy from Beveridge. The Bulldog's CEO who thinks that calling a club/our coach "disgusting" would be an over-reaction. Hello pot, kettle, black again. And then Caroline stating again about Peter Gordon's influence of the wording of the Talia investigation. The way that whole article is written, says that Caro, as the one who has we know been used as the AFL mouthpiece before, is giving out the message that the AFL is not happy with the Bulldogs and haven't been for a while. This is a classic AFL way to influence the public to their line of thinking by their use of Caro.

Damian Barrett has sunk in the velvet slipper in his Sliding Doors column:

Western Bulldogs
IF it is supposedly disgusting to publicly question lopsided free-kick numbers ... THEN ... we would have thought it was also that to refer one of your own players to the AFL for investigation without beforehand personally allowing a right of reply from the player himself.

Same as his tweet from earlier in the week, but to a wider audience - take that Beveridge, you floggy hack

Why is no one talking about the Eddie Betts ball where he was skirting the boundary line and there was no call by the umpire and then Betts kicks it to McGovern all alone in the square who marks the ball and only then the boundary umpire blows his whistle to indicate that the ball was supposedly out. I mean what the ****. If that isn't bias and a determination to have the Dogs win then I don't know what is. Ridiculous.
It was even worse when compared with a similar incident at the other end of the ground a couple of minutes later. The Bulldogs player was almost running around the 3rd tier of the grandstand, yet he didn't get called for OOB. Even the bulldogs supporters watching it in the club with me were dumbfounded that he got away with it, while Eddie got called.

It would not surprise me if J Selwood ends up with long term issues.

Dont mind Barrett sinking the boots in, he obviously doesnt like Beveridge, but someone really needs to give him the definition of Sliding Doors. Make him watch the movie if you have to.
