Thanks for the tips everyone. Definitely helped me narrow down my search. Derringer is where we’ve gone previously (older kid plays drums) but did think they were at the pricey end.

JBC is on the money when he says it’s for a gift. His 13th birthday is in Feb so we’re keen to get him a step up from the old acoustic that he’s been learning on.

Found a few Squier options that fit the bill on muso corner.

I remember my sister and I both banding together one xmas after a disappointing present haul & telling my parents thanks but there's nothing here we really want you can donate it all to the poor children.

One of my rellies got all altruistic one year and took that decision out of our hands by giving everyone one of those charity donation cards as a present. Thin lipped looks all round.

Make sure he unwraps the electric before the amp

Lol I was a sh*thead kid

One Christmas I unwrapped a present and it was an amp, I was a campaigner of a kid that was like 'i have an acoustic guitar an amp won't work!' to my parents. They then rightly snapped at me that I was an ungrateful sh*t and to finish unwrapping all my presents before I have a tanty. Sure enough there was an electric guitar waiting.

Surely a wrapped electric guitar under the tree would've been a dead giveaway?

Better yet just give him a card with a plectrum in it and hide the other sh*t. write in the card, "start saving, you ****ing donkey".

****ing good night of movies tonight:

top gun, love actually, the rock, notting hill, battleship, rampage, fists of fury, once upon a time in america

You read far too much into that.

I just saw it bookended by Dante and Sin(n)

I've had a loathing for the name Dante after someone with that name molested and killed a young girl in a shopping centre toilet in Perth a few years back - I don't think that bastard had Italian heritage though, just over imaginative parents more like, so I'll give our man a break.

I remember that dreadful thing happening, and a month or so later the rumour mill being absolutely on fire the perpetrator was one of the murderers of that small boy in the UK some years earlier, when he and his accomplice were only children themselves, and that one of them had been relocated to this country with a new ID.

Hopefully it was nothing more than a rumour!
