Speaking of, the cousin had an offer 5k below the valuation of nans house. You could get another 20 to 30k on open market I reckon, but it's not ALL about the money, plus that's not 20k in my pocket, it gets divided up still, and then there would be more fees.

I reckon the sooner this is put to bed the better. Might accept it.

Has property gone silly in Adelaide?

Just saw this: https://www.realestate.com.au/sold/property-house-sa-holden+hill-137713278

500k for a dump in Holden Hill 😳

Can you get a house for 300k anymore or is that all gone?
Yeah it ****ing has.

in the mid 80’s my dad bought his first house for 30k-ish. Which was probably less than his yearly wage.

a comparable house now would be something like 6x my dads yearly wage.

there’s no reason for Adelaide’s house prices to be rising drastically.

wages are not going up. They’ve been stagnant in Adelaide for years. The places I worked for had unions fight tooth and nail just to accept pay increases at less than annual inflation (meaning we were taking paycuts every year) between 2007-2016. Before that they were in line with inflation at best.

When we moved recently from Sa to Sydney my partner went from earning 70k to 110k for essentially a very similar job. And has opportunities to apply for jobs offering 160k.
My partner and I have been saving for a house for a while now, but the house prices increase faster than we save money lol.

Which also shits me.

I’m going to pay through the nose for a house but there’s got to be a near certain chance that the ass completely falls out the market in the next 10-35 years when it becomes too obvious to ignore how ****ed the planet is.

So odds are it will be worth **** all before I finish paying it off.

I might be better off building a bunker instead.

Yea ya gotta love house prices booming & rents increasing during a pandemic what a wonderful time.. to be a real estate agent, property investor/landlord I can't see why everybody hates them.

Real estate agents. What a con job that’s been. Somehow they convinced the world they’re so necessary that as unskilled workers they get paid like they’re heart surgeons. The entire Land Rover / Audi / bmw / Porsche SUV market is propped up by real estate agents spending their obviously exorbitant wages.
