Could be that the tac cup has made it possible for two players (each club) that are over eighteen but turn nineteen after April 31st of the next year that may have missed games though injury or school

And may get the opportunity if the reasons given by each club are acceptably.

Being so that they may do there draft/screenings chances alot higher that following year

I would be against that idea.

The Under 18 cut off is clear cut, the same for every team. When they start making selective judgements on who can play as an under 19 the clear cut rule all of a sudden becomes wishy washy. Injury means what, a bloke who missed 6 weeks, 10 weeks, 12 weeks?

I agree, its an under 18 comp - always has been. When you start to change the guidlines of the comp that has been running well for such a long time problems start to occur and it gets out of hand. I do feel for the guys that become injured throughout the year but its just unlucky. There are other ways to get drafted if your dedicated enough.

There was a player for Sandringham who was 18 last year turning 19 and had finished secondary education i was suprised he was allowed to play.
Edit: my mistake he was 19 before april

As unfortunate as it would be for the kids who were injured to miss out I think it should remain strictly u18.

Hard enough to get a game (or even on a list) as it is with u17, u18, and even u16 players vying for spots.

The other reasons I hear are because some metro and most country club lads get to play up to three seasons in the tac comp and some mature quicker than others as we well know.
So dont get on my case its only from what I hear. Anyways you can always put it in your book of useless information for all I care.

Cheers,

It is happening this year. Still some issues to be worked through, especially regarding training - with VFL or TAC Cup sides?? and the inconsistency this could cause with Country players.

Clubs do have to justify why the player should be able to have another year eg. injury, late physical developer.

Is old news now but can only say told you so with these new rules and must say not that good of a Idea

I think the TAC Competition should be turned into a Under 19 competition giving the kids that may have finished their VCE the year before another year of development in the TAC system without the distraction of school work and school football. They then can concentrate on their football and would make them into more draftable candidates, look at Matt Spangher and Ben McKinley both finished their VCE in '04 and had their university studies and football as their main priorities in '05 and both were drafted in '05 due to the extra work and development they could do without VCE hanging over their heads.

Flip side is the penalty to the kids who aren't going to Uni but are going to try and get jobs or apprenticeships. They have to find a way to support themselves for an extra year.
