That's right - you're making excuses for him. I'm sure even Ty will tell you that if he's out there on the field, he has to perform; no excuses. I understand you want to rationalise Vickery's disgustingly bad season (when he played) in any way possible, but using injuries is a poor excuse. He put up John Anthony numbers last year, injury or no injury... well, actually, Anthony averaged more marks.I don't think players make 'excuses' themselves you twit. I'm pretty sure Geelong/St Kilda supporters would have said something along the lines of "Shit, imagine how good he would have been had he not of had ____"
To your second point, does that make Hurley a so called 'Potato Curator' for the rest of his career?

Of course you can. Just don't pull out the injury excuse if the bloke is actually out there on the field. Unless Richmond put Vickery in harm's way and possibly helped to aggravate his injury even more, costing him the best part of a year of football, then we have to assume he was fit to play.
How did Woewodin go from Brownlow Medalist to barely above average player? Vickery has been crap for 3 out of his 4 years in the AFL so if anything, his 2011 was the out of the ordinary season. Some players who aren't much chop manage to pull a good season out of their ass then revert back to their usual level after that. The "Richard Tambling effect".
Hird does'nt make a dozen basic mistakes in the last two minutes of a game then loses to GC.
