that does help. I think we'll escape from this compromised tassie draft just fine if our 2027 prospects come on in the next couple years.

Fingers Crossed Eli, Ted and co help their respective cases.

James Barnard is the son of East Perth legend Jeremy Barnard.

Jeremy captained East Perth to 3 WAFL league premierships, played 205 WAFL league matches and coached East Perth.

I'd say that is an astute pick Haggas. Young James has the pedigree. A no-nonsense kind of player like his old man.

Good to see how those WA lads go in colts next year

Both would be Paul Barnard’s relo’s.
Right?

Yes indeed. Jeremy would be Paul's brother. All tough nuts. Originally from Vic. So thanks for giving us something back for a change....haha.

Actually, WA 18's coach Marc Webb, who I think is a marvellous tactician and motivator (Look what he did with a weak 2024 WA squad) is a Vic also. He also captained a WAFL club (Subiaco) to a premiership and played 195 league games for the Lions. Might be a Port Melbourne lad originally?.

I didn’t know the Barnards are Vic natives.

Wonder what brought them to WA.
Quite a few VFL players try their hand at WAFL. It particularly works well for the outside runners who can thrive on the big WA grounds. However, neither Jeremy or Paul were outside runners. But it worked out for them.

Let's not forget that Haydn Bunton Snr won 3 Brownlow medals for Fitzroy and then moved to Perth and played for Subi and won 3 Sandover medals. The greatest of all time.

I'm guessing he moved over when his son was just a kid.

I'm not sure. Jnr was a fair player and coach in his own right. This photo could be when he was captain-coach of the Black Ducks. Looks like the old Subiaco Oval with the wooden stand.

Only ever have seen photos of Junior as a coach but never as a player.

Thanks for this.

Correction! Apparently Barnard is not a Vic. Not sure who I'm getting him mixed up with. My bad. Also a different site has him playing 221 WAFL league games. Jeez, I'm going as well as the Australian cricket team.

So Jeremy Barnard is a good WA lad.
