I think it’s odd that people are obsessing about a 192cm midfielders lack of speed when you look at guys in league like Cripps , Bont , Dawson and plenty of others that don’t have speed

The template is already there at afl level
100%. Langfords pros far out way his cons. Harley Reid wasn’t classed as quick in his draft year but under the eyes of a experienced S&C team and becoming a FT footballer his speed has improved significantly. just can’t see Langford sliding to 20.

I hope he slides to Ports pick and we get possibly the best player from the draft haha

I had to check this out as this took me by suprise, yeah he ran 3.05 20m which is middle of the row I guess.

PMBangers - how important is the 2km at the AFL combine in your eyes?

Will Hannaford's time (7:26 time over 2km) cause him to slide down the ranks on draft day?
that is a horrid 2k time trial, fitness is important so i think it will, to what degree depends on the clubs.

From memory, a swan recruiter said the only important test at the combine was the 2km time trial.

It will be interesting to see if he slides, and if so, how much.

Probably depends on what’s considered sliding. Is it based on the Fremantle board insisting he’s a top 15 pick?

Yet there's absolutely no signs of poor endurance in Ollie's game play and I've watched every minute of every game he's ever played at CTL and Nationals if anything it's the exact opposite with his manic pressure and 2nd and 3rd efforts always on show whether playing back, forward or on ball. Go focus on Ollie's CTL grand final game where he played on ball for most of the game and more than held his own against the might of the Dragons midfield.

AFL recruiters are smarter than that, well most of them anyhow.

Yeah to the eye fitness doesn't seem to an issue for Hannaford.

Can anyone give an indication (and I mean with actual data) of how strongly yo-yo and 2km results typically correlate?

Because he posted a very decent 960 yo-yo; I feel like it would be an implausible combination of endurance abilities if that 2km time was reliable.

haha

If he is picked after 25, then I would say he has slid a bit.

If he goes past 35, then it would say it is a big slide.
All true but he is still a big riser from late July when I first seen him live. Was so impressed by his leadership and work rate. That I looked him up and couldn’t find much about him, wasn’t in any draft boards and no rookieme profile.

Could be as simple as he was unwell on the day or just hadnt 100% recovered from the GF. Being a state combine invite maybe felt he couldn't just skip it like everyone seems to do at National Combine if they're not 100%.

I think Langfords lack of athleticism is overplayed

Just watch him play and see how many times he actually gets from the inside to outside and links up , run and carry and metres gained

Now get him into a program where a Darren Burgess is looking after him and he could be a bit of a weapon athletically with his size and ability to work end to end

Bit of high end training on his power and he could be a real beast

The hard bit is the football bit and he’s got that in spades , I’ve got him ranked 6th but an bullish on his career
Wasn't Darren Burgess looking after Tyler Welsh this year and he turned up to draft camp fat as a house?

I'm with you on Langford, not popular with several on our board especially Jeffcrowe, maybe not as low as you though and like you I rate Bo Allan a lot higher than most, even higher than you have him. I see him as athletically superior to Langford and a lot more upside.

That's all well and good but Allan lacks a football brain and I'm not sure you can teach that.

I think his footy IQ is pretty good but his midfield craft needs work, understandable given his lack of exposure at rep level prior to this year

Exactly Bangers way more upside than most midfield prospects in this draft. :thumbsu:

If he doesnt make it as a pure mid at AFL level, I could see him in a Hodge type role across HB. Thoughts on that mate?
I think HB or even wing are going to be the most likely positions for him to compliment his strengths

Potentially and he is raw but he has too much of a habit for blind long bomb kicks to me he doesn't have much feel for the game imo.

I know it's just one play but I can't get over him shrugging a tackle, being free in the middle of the ground and dishing a long look away handball to the other team. The athletic profile is great, the skills aren't too bad, the decision making is baffling at times

disposal certainly looks iffy in these highlights but the handball you mention, he must've spotted the player out of the corner of his eye & mistaken him for a teammate. He just seems to make the handball with such certainty......

Again, midfield craft thing to my eye, saw no reason to worry about his composure from his U17s games as a defender. Might take a year in the 2s to get more familiar with when to go the long bomb and when to take advantage of space to scan for options
