Jacob Thompson and James Lawton were offered contracts with Bendigo. Lucin and McCallum were invited down but have decided to take offers elsewhere. McCallum to Williamstown and Lucin to Coburg which IMO is a good choice considering most of Coburgs midfield have all up and gone to south Australia. More of a chance for Lucin to work his way into the firsts. Coburg have also signed Ezard and Duhau. Temel has not yet returned to football.

I have heard a whisper that Rayner has decided to concentrate on his athletics - does anyone on here know any more.

Very interesting Watch Out, thanks for the updates. Sad news about Temel, hope he tries his luck at VFL level somewhere.

Have you heard where Brendan Fewster will be playing next year?

Along with Steve Witkowski

So no Tom Hill then?

Players need to be very, very wary of going to Bendigo. They have dropped their VFL Reserves team, so they will basically be like Collingwood and Geelong who play all their AFL listed players first, then rely on their own players as top ups.

Nice they want to go actively recruiting, but Temel could spend 12 weeks of the season playing EDFL cos there's no spot for him in the Bendigo senior team. Players are more under the eye of AFL clubs playing VFL Reserves than they are local footy if they have draft aspirations.

Seems the cost cutting excersize may not have payed off and they may have jumped the gun by dumping the reserves. I know what Bendigo have had for the last 3 years has been a real joke but with the increased rookie spots and Essendon chasing TAC Cup players they may have been better off keeping the ressies.
The fact that Essendon rookied 3 expereinced players and the Bomber playing list is starting gain more expereince has lead to the situation where Bendigo will struggle to attarct any more experienced players as like the TAC Cup players they also could be playing Metro footy.

Easy to say now but i think they jumped the gun.

I believe that Hill is training with the Bullants and has done quite well at their training so far. That doesn't mean he can't be offered a spot back at Northern, but he does seem to have moved on.

I can understand that players are treating Bendigo with care. They have had a lot of issues in recent times, especially about the different training venues and the result it has on team structure. Basically, they haven't been able to keep players. While Essendon have made noises about changing this, not having VFL 2nds is going to have guys playing other football every 2nd week (assuming Essendon's list holds up). Most Bendigo lads would much rather play BFL. Many Pioneers spend a year at the Bombers then go and find a position in country football. This isn't going to change under their present structure: if anything it will be more likely.

You are spot on and this has really hurt Bendigo.
The problems continue for Bendigo as they have about the poorest U/18 to harvest each year and with no reserves the chances are young blokes would spend a majority of their time playing for Douttas or a Strathmore.
Football Vics rules ensured that it was moot anyway. Only 2 Calder kids were going to get to Bendigo anyway.
It seems short sighted in the extreme for essendon not to fund a reserves team for Bendigo because it certainly restricts their ability to recruits quality TAC kids who missed out but may develop further.
With essendon securing Windy Hill fulltime you would think Bendigos long term future is still doubtful.

Essendon and the bendigo Bank made a BIG deal about how their partnership was going to be CLOSER in 2010. I just can't see it with the present setup. None of the lads I was teaching were considering the Bendigo Bombers as a realistic option.

Scott Atkinson training with Cannons as 19 year old. Approx 190 athletic player with a basketball background.
Can confirm Fewster with Coburg as is Lawton with Thompson and Temel at Bendigo.
My sources tell me a pretty good player has moved into the Jets zone will confirm details as they arise.

I will await that one with interest...Calder would no doubt be happy for Hine and Toy signing GC contracts but they are already two quality players down going into 2010.

Good work. :thumbsu:

Looking at those, I'm fairly happy with that lot. I'd say its the first time since the rule came in that every club has listed an overage player in a season. Nice to see a few guys who haven't been in the TAC system before get a chance too.

Footyman, can you confirm the overage rule in relation to Geelong, Northern & Western, that is 5 19yo's, that each club can only play any 4 19yo's in any one game, meaning one will miss out each round (pending injuries etc).

Don't know an answer to that one, sorry! They seem to change the rules every year. Last year the Falcons were allowed to list five, but only three could play at any one time. So I wouldn't be surprised if your suggestion for 2010 is correct.

Has anyone heard of a Renn Glassford? Last I heard of him he was playing for Aberfeldie U 14's a few years ago and was completely dominating the comp but had some trouble with his knee....

One of those footyman would be Daley Bear (193cm) with Northern. First pulled the boots on 3 years ago playing in Coffs Harbour. Joined in some training drills when the Hawks and Bombers trained in Coffs in December raising some eyebrows.

Will be interested to see how rapidly a kid whose never been in a footy environment improves.

Probably not totally relevant to the 19yo forum, but does anyone know if the first four rounds TAC Cup teams will be having 24 players? As per last couple of seasons.

First three weeks for country teams, and first four weeks for Metro teams. Back to normal following the bye weekend on April 17/18.

Not compulsory though, and regional managers must agree whether they use 4 or 6 interchange players by the Thursday before the game. I suspect most will use 24 players. There's a whole lot of other conditions as well relating to how it may be used.

overage players for 2010

oakleigh - Ahearne & Castricum

Both deserved a decent shot at it without school footy and have had solid seasons so far.

A'Hearne doesn't do much wrong and looks a better player than last year.

Castricum has really kicked on this year and is doing very well as the first ruck. Against the Cannons, Oakleigh looked vulnerable whenever he went off for a rest.
