The rest are moderate except Allen and McLaren - they put the rest to shame.

Vozzo has got better in the past year, Brett Allen always ok and most are unbiased/good decision makers.

Wenn, Jeffrey, Avon (I will never forget that display from those 3), McLaren, Goldspink are the worst

Three best umpires
Darren Goldspink- Very rarely gets it wrong, pays decisions which are gutsy and has been the most consistent over the last 10 years in which he has missed the top 6 umpires of the year only once(qualification is you do a prelim final).

Michael Vozzo- Improved so much since his disaster at the MCG on Preliminary Final day in 2001. Did the Wizard Cup GF and is getting bigger games because he pays the correct decisions and communicates well with the players.

Brett Rosebury- Young umpire who bounces it well and has also improved. Lets the play flow and pays the correct decisions.

Three worst umpires
Andrew Coates- Takes 1/2 an hour to bounce the ball, very over officious. Pays at least 3 stupid 50m penalties every match and one can only thank god he is out to injury at the moment.

Dean Margetts- Has no control and should of been delisted with his mate Mark Fussell last year. Struggles to bounce the ball properly and has no respect from fans or players.

Stephen McBurney- How he has done the last two GF's is a joke. Unfit maggot who cannot bounce or pay a correct free kick consistently. Likes to be in the players faces to much. Also loves the underdog and tries to even up matches.

And Matthew Head because he is a mad Carlton Fan.

Deadset clown.
(And before the saints fans pipe up, it has NOTHING to do with the match on the weekend. I have hated this f***wit for several years now).

McBurney a close second in the deadsh.it category.

Allen is not too bad I guess.

Mathew Head by far is the worst umpire in the AFL. The others have thier days but this piece of canine faeces just stuffs up time & time again. he really should look in the mirror and ask himself why is it infact he even exists.

Try not to take to much notice of the umpires. But I'd have to say Maggot must be a good one. Every time I go to the football some-one is praising him, yelling out "Good one Maggot"

Best Umpire: By an absolute mile, Woodcock.

Worst current Umpires: Where do you start, but here's a short-list.

McBurney (although I did enjoy him patronising the Irish players in the International series)

Dey (althogh a rookie umpire in the AFL, his SANFL record is very ordinary)

Vozzo (I prefer to call him Bozo, and it rhymes)

Worst past umpires:

Nash (just about every time he umpired a Crows game there was a scandal)

Sheenan (need I say any more)

ALL TIME WORST UMPIRE: John Harvey. An absolute disgrace to the AFL who helped North Melbourne to many, many wins (who could forget the infamous Shaun Rehn decision in 1998, then it is revealed that Harvey supported North as a kid, which made the decision worse).

In the SANFL, there was a shocker of an umpire by the name of Ron Betridge. His photo in the Budget (SANFL's equivilent of the Record) looked like one of those on Australia's Most Wanted. He was so bad he needed a security escort off the ground after just about every match he umpired.

hmmm all these posts on woodcock being a great umpire - are these people norwood fans by any chance?

I would have to say that my favourite umpire is my mate Mick Avon not just cause he is a great bloke but he is pretty damn good ump too (plus he can bounce the ball like no ones business). On a side note - he is related to the Holland boys and played footy with Westies under 17's I think from memory.

He has improved.

I did see what he did. He gave the correct decisions as well.

You just have to watch him a little more closely and also read your rule book.
