Watching some of our games again and there is a very common theme that I would love to try and document.

Most of our frees are not from the "in-zone" umpire. It seems that the out of zone umps will pay a lot of the real obvious High or HTB frees for us when there is an umpire right in front of the play with a full view.

Here is a question.

How many times has Richmond outright lost the free kick count since Damien resigned and Andrew took over? 11 matches.

We need to be realistic because losing all 11 is a roughly 1.5 in 10,000 chance so obviously out of the question. Expressed in betting odds you would get about 6600-1 odds about an AFL team losing 11 consecutive free kick counts.

But how many times have we lost the free kick count in the last 11 matches?

Note - under Mini we have received 143 free kicks at an average of 13 per game. AFL median is 19.4 per game in 2023. Since Mini took over teams infringe us on average about 6.4 times less than they do against each other. So when teams play teams other than us under Mini, on average their infringements rise by 49%.

Great post. Spot on. If you assess it over the last 7 years, an independent actuarial assessment would tell you it is NOT MATHEMATICALLY POSSIBLE for our games to have received such a free kick profile WITHOUT there being CORRUPTION.

Yesterday was particularly bad.

It seems like several times our players were mauled in the contest, I can think of at least 3 (Bauer, Broad, Bolton) that weren't paid, and there times we barely breathed on them and they'd get a free kick.

It just wasn't consistent both ways, can't let them go for one team and pay them for the other.

Like most things in this shitty world noting will be said and it will continue on for years to come.

For a long time the problem has been that the club won't recognize we "may have" a problem with umpiring "interpretations" that by design, are working against us. For YEARS everyone has been saying "it is the way we play", Yet both WCE and Collingwood have copied our gameplan we used in 2017-2020 and been they have been at the opposite ends of the "free kicks for" ledger. Notice how I don't mention "free kicks against" - because the comment "the way we play" is directly relative to the "free kicks against". My argument has ALWAYS been that we give away dumb frees on occasion, but we seldom receive the free kicks we earnt. The PERFECT examples are the frees to King for literally brushing his collar, but at the other end, Bauer is held back in a marking contest buy the neck of his jumper. Technically two free kicks to Bauer for the price of one, yet King EXPECTED a free kick for nothing, and gets it.

Here we have the Collingwood and Port Supporters complaining about the umpiring in their respective games - all over social media - yet we get ripped blind every week. We received FOUR free kicks late in the game against St Kilda well after the game was over (to even it up more)- but when the game was on the line, 13 in a row, mainly forward of the center to the Saints (4 to King).

Our club does NOTHING - as if there is no problem at all. Are we overreacting? Are our concerns unjustified?
