Is it possible to see a stat for how many frees for/against result in direct shots at goal? Was chatting to my Dad on Sunday and he said he did his best not to get angry watching the game on Saturday, but it's not just the 20 free kick differential, it's where they keep paying them to the opposition when we are missing out ourselves.

So yeah would be curious to see how often those calls are made in front of goal against us. Most of Carlton's round 1 momentum in that last quarter, for example, came from frees, 50s, and a couple of non-calls our way too.

Cornes had it right though, the game is ****ed, I honestly feel the same in that every time there's a contest, the whistle will go.

At this point I'd be happy with a robot algorithm making onfield umpiring decisions instead of a human. They would get way more decisions wrong but would at least be neutral.
no they wouldnt

no they wouldnt
You are right. I snagged a roomba from hard rubbish day that could be programmed to run around backwards, randomly selecting between free for, free against, play on, and ball up, every thirty seconds and no one would notice any difference.

The game as we know it is unrecognisable. The AFL thinks the supporters are stupid and will just go along with whatever agenda they want. Need to let them know that the supportes and players are 90% of the game, not AFL 90%. Mclauglan has f’ed the game up.
vlad was a saint compared to gill

Yep 100% only way is for fans to stop watching
I think it has already started, I know some real hard line footy supporters from other clubs, that aren't going to the footy at the moment. They would go to the footy all the time & are hardly attending now, as the game is turning into something we never grew up watching. I haven't attended any games this season & don't think I would bother at the moment. I will always support the Tigers & watch on TV, will also continue my membership, but the game is turning my interest to other activities.
Also reading other supporters comments, it will escalate pretty quickly when it does of people turning away from the game. Once they lose loyal supporters, it will be a hard job getting some of these people back into the stands

“There’s no acceptable level of dissent towards umpires.” They’re going way too far with this. That you can’t raise your arms to question a decision is ridiculous. Reminds me of the time I sighed during a team meeting and then was forced to do an online course about respect in the workplace

The AFL has no idea of looking ahead. They are loosing fans because of what tbey call umpiring - LOL. Take away the die hard fans and lotal supporters and you then start to loose the next generation of supporters that would come through.
Local clubs and auskick have lost too many kids with the covid crisis. Add the umpiring garbage on top of that and our great game is on a downward spiral. We loose the kids in football and then we loose the talent pool and the game will be worse off.
