Ellen kicked 5 goals in the 1997 GF and presumably would have featured prominently in the NSM voting.

edit: Well this was a reply to the mention of Shane Ellen in original post which has subsequently been edited out.

Tim Watson in 1993 is a great call tomaraya!

Man had to fell for Derek playing all those games and being dropped.
Bull****
Watson had a brilliant September in `93, his G.F performance was ordinary, but he played his part more than most in getting us there, please check out his September in 1993
If the thread title was most ordinary Grand Final days then T. Watson would figure. He was excellent that month.

Essendon wouldn't have made the GF without Watson. He had a good prelim, THAT goal in the last quarter. Goosebumps & I hate the Dons:eek: ;)

He had a couple of reasonable games and then a poor grand final on the day the premiership was won. Carried on the day, last picked into the team and I still maintain Derek who had played every game up to that point was harshly dealt with.

Watson was always going to play. I will love Derek Kickett till the day I die, but to blame Watson for his exclusion is plainly wrong. That is what king of the bull****ters Kevin Sheedy uses whenever the question comes up..." What Essendon supporters have to realise is that it was either Derek or Timmy" i give sheedy points for trying to pull the wool over us dumb supporters, but he was taken aback at he back lash he received from Kickett and us fans, he uses the favourite son ( T.Watson) line as an escape route. Sorry Kevin we are not that thick.
Watson kicked 5 v carlton in the first night final, if anyone got us over the line it was going to be him that night. He was very good the next week v w.coast, kicked the first and last goals the next week v the crows, he sealed it, he provided the inspiration that day, we were well and truly ****ed.
He had a poor g.f, he had done more than enough to earn his medal. In another thread i have nominated s.alessio as one player who is an undeserved premiership player, for me, this bloke was well and truly carried to a flag. Watson did more in one game than alessio did in an entire season. This is what i feel the thread is about

Fair enough windyhill I suppose I am looking at more from the performance on the day hence my first call of Shane Bond who was actually named est first year player at the Eagles in 1994 yet his performance in the grand final was pathetic.

I must admit to a huge soft spot for Derek, his goal over the back of his head for Claremont circa 1985 is forever etched in my memory.

In 1994 Shane Bond for the Eagles. He did nothing in the Grand final but walked away with a premiership medal.

Did nothing for the rest of his career as well. Makes you feel for a true champion like Bobby Skilton who never got a premiership medallion but thats luck.

Get a Clue.

Shane Bond kicked 2 goals in the 1994 grand final.

He may not have been B.O.G. but that's 2 more grand final goals than the majority of players.

He also played about 20 games for the season (his first year by the way). As a rookie, he earnt his place in a side of stars.

What he did for the rest of his career ? - well after 2 years of injuries following 1994 he went to Port and was a good player for them in their early years before injuries struck again.
