Liverpool are too good this season.
I predicted this exact scenario happening in the season with my local club. City would drop off (didn’t expect it to be this huge though), Liverpool would be the biggest threat and Chelsea would be the big improvers.
Need to hope Liverpool get a few injuries because they’ve managed to grind out results even when playing poorly. The big period is coming up so we just need to make sure we are consistent and the rest struggle.
I mean yeah that’s a big loss for them but they can’t even do basic passing and making real basic skill errors. In fairness to City, Rodri going down has left an impossible void for them to cover. He's the best midfielder on the planet. I wonder if they will make a move for Zubamendi this upcoming window.
I hope some of Liverpool's older players tire throughout the season - VVD and Salah in particular.

This is a team of mostly the same individuals who won the quadruple. For me, it has to be motivation. Basically reaching the pinnacle last year, there’s no where to go but for a repeat but subconsciously, players just aren’t up for it as much as they were the year before.Yes as much as a loss he is for them, there’s much more to it and something is just not quite right. There’s a number of factors contributing. Some very unusual and uncharacteristic things happening there at the moment.
Much better to be 9 points ahead than behind, but titles aren't won in December.Just some random observations with a third of the the season gone. In favour of Liverpool:
- seasoned players, known winners. Lots of title winning experience within the squad.
- they’ve been there, done that. They know how to win, even with a more favourable set of fixtures so far. Grinding out wins even when not playing comprehensively well (geez Southampton last week did their absolute best to lose that match).
- you’d much rather be 9 points ahead on the table than not, and bank the points on the board.
In Arsenal’s favour:
- away fixtures completed such as City, Newcastle, Villa, Chelsea and Spurs within the first 11 match days.
- returning players from injuries and absences (hope I haven’t jinxed that).
- being amongst a chasing pack I actually prefer. Arsenal leading the table for significant periods of time in recent seasons brings with it considerable spotlight and pressure, and for a younger/haven’t won anything yet kind of group that perhaps was not ideal.
- Liverpool were 5 points ahead of Arsenal at the new year. Ended up 7 behind come end of the season. A 12 point turnaround. Arsenal have demonstrated what we’re capable of with momentum and a run of form in the second half of the season.
Overall, I’m not too preoccupied really. It’s still so early and so many matches to go. 25 games to play, and literally the best thing for Arsenal is to focus purely on accumulating points on masse now in this hectic time of the season. Chip away at that lead and come early next year reassess from there.
The margin of error becomes tighter and tighter now so Arsenal need to ensure the focus is on the next match, United on Thursday morning, to maximise the points available for if/when others stumble or have a wobble of form.
United playing well here. Not allowing any space and milking every opportunity.
Partey frustrates me. Miss aside, has been very casual with his passing, would much prefer Jorginio.
