It's been an akward run for Wenger and our captains the last few years. Gallas' meltdown in 2008 left Wenger no choice but to act, then we sold Cesc and RvP. Vermaelen's dip in form then meant our current captain sits on the fringes.

Mertesacker is the logical choice. Wilshere too young and immature at this stage.

Metesacker has natural leadership which he has shown a plethora of times since he has been at the club. Without hesitation I'd give him the armband for the upcoming season

Pretty sure that got taken off him because of the negative effect it had on his game - put way too much pressure on himself as a result. BFG for me.

Correct, is not an automatic starter and is overrated by the fans and press because he is English and supposedly a future England captain. Needs to get his game right and get through a season injury free for now.

Quick google search says he got injured in the German pre-tournament training camp and that's why he missed the WC

From what I've read, seeing as I haven't really watched Khedira or Bender play, that they're more box to box midfielders. Do we really need a player like that? I'd prefer someone more defensively minded, but I have no idea who.
