If Rob Kerr has shifted the goal posts as I suspect he has, WC should in no way continue to keep giving ground, as they did by bettering their initial offer of #44 by bringing it down to #31. To compromise and then compromise again, without any compromise being reciprocal, only makes for Brisbane acting the bully and WC willingly playing the weak-willed pushover. It's time for Vozzo to hold firm and say '#31 is our best offer, and we won't be budging. We've compromised in spite of having the leverage, so now it's your time to come to the party'.

Rob Kerr being in a difficult spot with so many players wanting out isn't an excuse. Reneging on #31 because he and Brisbane are going through a tough time isn't WC's issue or fault. WC shouldn't compromise and cut Brisbane any more slack if Kerr has reneged and thus acted in bad faith, as well as the fact that WC have already taken steps to satisfy Brisbane by acquiring #31.
You have no idea that West Coast ever bargained down to #31. How do you know West Coast didn't just do that so we kept a decent second round pick?

Your question: "How do you know West Coast didn't just do that so we kept a decent second round pick?" goes a way to making my point. Why would WC acquire another 2nd round pick if one of those two 2nd rounders weren't to be used on Yeo? Given WC hold the whip hand, why would they give up the earlier of those two? And if WC were willing to give up #28 initially, why hasn't this deal already concluded? Of course my comments are made from certain assumptions. That has to be the case when this trade isn't being played out through the media, but that doesn't mean logical conclusion/s can't be inferred from the tidbits of information being released. Whether those logical conclusions end up being right or wrong is irrelevant as to whether the logic fits.

It would be logical that if we offered 40+ that the next step would be 31 before
Arriving at 28.

And if the pick downgrade was all about securing another second Rounder - pick
28 would have gone to brissie yesterday

We would have offered 31, Brisbane may have said all along we want 28.

There's also been reports that Brisbane are trying to line up all the trades at the same time, although I have absolutely no idea why.

Information is often repeated without scrutiny and is just accepted before being relayed as truth. Tonight I've read that we are prepared to give pick 31 to Carlton for bootsma and that Carlton aren't accepting our offer of a player

The best one is one article said we offered pick 31, but Carlton said no. But another article said Carlton wanted 31, but we only offered players. Totally contradictory! Straight off the bat you know at least one of them is wrong...

It is easy for a couple of club people to STFU. What I find amazing is Buddy, his manager, lawyer, friends, etc doing that....

I don't think his family knew. It's not often secrets like that don't leak out somehow

Or they're covering events from parallel universes! Possibly a quantum anomaly at the point of space-time divergence led to the inadvertent exchange of newspaper articles.

This is possible, but entirely improbable. :p

More likely, they are just guessing/using internet rumors as source material.

It could be said that Vozzo was hopeful of acquiring a strong young mid in the first round of the draft. Such can't be guaranteed. I understand their want for Yeo, but the lost opportunity cost of trading down the first rounder only to eventually give up the pick Brisbane initially asked for makes little sense.

What has to be weighed up is whether a downgraded first rounder is of what value compared to pick 31. If WC were willing to give up #28, then the downgrade only to have #31 to use isn't worth it, IMO.

Vozzo may well have tested the waters, so to speak, but the waters, like the tides, have been constantly changing. The ground for Vozzo's plan when he enacted it have suddenly changed, and it seems to have come unstuck and left him in the situation where he's now seemingly having to improvise.

Great post. Truly. Especially loved the tide waters analogy truly brilliant. Just one thing that irks me its just opportunity cost. The cost forgone. Loosing the cost forgone is a double negative and thus a positive. Sorry some people are english Nazi's im an econs nazi.

If that's true, then there must be an infinite number of trades happening consecutively.

I'm sick of trade period. Would love to see it reduced back to a week.

Perhaps the better alternative is we grow up as a code and have much longer and more open trade windows that do away with this silly concept of narrow trade periods...

That way we can move away from focusing on a narrow period and instead accept that player movement is part of sport. At present it takes on the significance of a change of government because of the inability to fix list issues for another 12 months.

We are agreeing far too often for my liking at the moment

I can't think of another professional team sport anywhere in the world that limits player transfers as much as AFL. It's incredibly restrictive for the players as well as the clubs.

Yeah the waiting game sucks. Let's play Hungry Hungry Hippos!

Word was they didnt want to put our deal through to set a low precedent for what they might get for polec/longer/docherty. But I doubt that very much, carlton and port will be just as aware as BF bloggers that our deal will eventually happen for either 28/31. Ahh the waiting game

It's not a low precedent. I'm really surprised about what they are getting for Polec, at least according to what has been mentioned in the media. He has shown almost nothing at AFL level.
