Assuming both are named this week, who does everyone think is the better long term prospect for both scoring well and playing regular games (they have both averaged 66 in their first 2 games).

Or is it worth taking a risk on Callan Ward, who has only played 1 game (for 49) - Doggies supporters have big raps for him.

I already have Armfield as a Defence Emr, but I might pick up Urquhart this week as well for Proud. That way I have pretty much enough cows to last the rest of the season until when I need to upgrade.

Urquhart > Proud?

Unfortunately Urquhart is probably going to struggle to play many more games with Smith, Wells, Sinclair and Swallow to come back in.

are people thinking either of these two would be a safe bet to have as your 8th back, ie your primary backup for injury. Currently have wonna in that role now, not sure if i want to get rid of him (as 9th back is proud).

Could pick them up for S Browne as 8th mid instead, but not make as much cash as the wonna trade.

Urquhart will play out the rest of the year, laidely said on radio today he was 'extremely impressed' with start to his career.

Armfield is known for his defensive work.

Personally i think he's a HUGE risk. This is mainly due to the fact that i could see him having very low scoring games (20's 30's). He himself says that he's not worried about getting the ball but merely beating his opponent.

Imo Urquart looks the more likely type and seems to get a bit more of the ball at half back. Imo he is very impressive but whether or not he holds his spot is a different story.

Jezza, I'm currently in the same boat as yourself.

I'm in the same boat as both you blokes.

I can trade Wonna for Armfield or Urquhart in the backs to maximise my cash, but perhaps leave my back reserves thin,

or I can do Browne -> Armfield in the mids, bolstering my mid reserves but dudding myself out of 80k.

in summary, which is the better option:

BACK EMGS: Wonna, Edwards....MID EMGS: Welli, Armfield.....+80k

or

BACK EMGS: Arm/Urq, Edwards..MID EMGS: Welli, Browne......+160k

I think there's far more chance Wonna will play every game for Melbourne than Arm/Urq for their clubs. I'm not sure that Wellingham will play every game for the pies either.

Bob, the first one looks far safer, but there could be a huge upside with the second one. I'd say it all depends on how much of a difference the extra 80k will make.

I was originally keen on picking up Armfield, but I think they'll both play a similar amount of games.

Have the option of getting rid of Taylor for either of them (SDT being my other emergency), or Wellingham for Armfield. The second would leave my mid emergencies as Armfield and Browne, which might be pushing it.

Picking up Armfield in the mids would allow me to bring in Bruce, while bringing in Armfield or Urquhart in the backs would give me enough to bring in one of Green or Hodge, while leaving Wellingham as an emergency.

Yeah I'm starting to lean toward the more conservative $ approach of keeping Wonna as 8th back all year, and doing Browne -> Armfield in the mids for 80k.

I also have another 60k in my bank right now so I would have 140k to for upgrades. I'll wait until Palmer shows the first sign of cracks then hopefully pull the trigger on Palmer -> Gun, hopefully leaving enough change for one more 'luxury upgrade' before I hold on for dear life.

the extra cash from trading wonna out would be very handy, but there is still 11 rounds to go and the risk of being caught short with no reliable backs (should armfield/urquhart not get consistant games) is too much for me to handle at this point.
Think i'll hold onto wonna (can trade him out just before finals if i need that cash), maybe trade for browne now, or maybe even just pass on these rookies. Would only consider 1 trade this week, and that might get taken up by Chornes with his sore knee.

If you're going for an overall position then it is an easy decision. Wonna to Armfield and leaving Harry Taylor as your 8th back for the rest of the year. Taylor will cement a spot in the Geelong lineup for the rest of the year, was only out last week as there was no KPP for him to matchup on. +$80k extra from one trade is alot of cash.

If you're looking for a league victory then staying on the conservative side isn't a bad thing. But i can't justify having two players certain of playing every week in the backs at the cost of $80k. As unreliable as the backs have been, you will rarely need both to cover.

Easy decision here. Wonna to Armfield +$80k, leaving Taylor and SDT (should keep his spot this week) on the bench. And Wellingham and Browne in the mids. Not the ideal bench options but you have to take some risks to be successful in this game. Was reffering to BIG FAT BOBS situation btw. Have fun trying to make a decision now =)

I think you may have mixed two of us together.

BFB = Wonna + Edwards in the backs

Lifelike = Taylor + SDT in the backs.
