Not that I agree with the tariff v income tax argument but at least a tariff only applies to things you consume. Income tax is taken unilaterally. You could live in a chalet in the Forrest with your own power and still pay 60% of your income to the Gocernment. Under a tariff system, theoretically you pay for what you consume, if you consume less you contribute less.

Now I don't think he's actually going to do that but it does raise an interesting question of fairness.

Assuming your a conservative like me (actually a classical liberal) the issue with Trump’s tariff agenda is that it requires no congressional approval. The president is empowered by current congressionally approved law to institute tariffs as he sees fit. That’s worked well enough so far and folks may even trust Trump to use that power judiciously as he expands its practical use.

But the president can essentially tax without limit or without the need for congressional approval with this precedent? Who cares what Trump does. What about the guy who comes after him? What about the next Biden or Obama? Do you think they will show restraint or will whoever is next do what they always do, which is more of what the last guy did?

Anyways, we’ve been on this ride for 30 years. It just so happens that the roller coaster is really starting to pick up speed and get scary. Wait 20 years and see how fast this thing is moving.

Well it actually is true that this nation was founded as a Christian one, which is why Paliament still to this day opens with the Lord's Prayer.

As for your second point no I wouldn't that because that's incompatible with our values and beliefs.

Our nation was also founded as a British slave colony, sometimes things change.

Religion has no place in Government here. Any religion. There shouldn't be any prayers in Parliament.

Trump is solely going to focus on the many of dangerous figures to begin with its going to be hard to track the illegal immigrants down. The easiest way will be through the criminal system where they have commited crimes or are already on a watch list. I do think America needs to make the pathway to citizenship easier and have a proper committee to judge whether individual illegals should stay or go depending on their circumstances and how they contribute to society which ideally would and should happen anyway.

Most illegal immigrants don't commit crimes. There's actual studies on this. More crimes are committed by American citizens.

Tarrifs almost certainly won't fix the tax system. It'll raise the cost of goods manufactured overseas e.g. China and mean the end consumer pays more. Which is fine if you're already well enough of, but not if you're low-to-middle income.

Reducing company tax is just your stock standard 'trickle down economics' once more. It'll send money in to the pockets of company owners and shareholders (e.g. disproportionately to the wealthy) instead of to the workers.

Covid should have been a clear illustration of what happens when you give different demographics cash. Put it in the hands of companies and it helps no one. Put it in the hands of people (e.g. Jobseeker supplement) and it actually gets spent on goods and services.
but where used correctly tariffs "encourage" consumer to purchase the locally made product and there keep the money in the country creating jobs etc.

This isn't a good reason to keep religion in Government or the Legal System today. Since Judeo-Christian principles are also largely just a rip-off of other religions that came before them anyway.

Everyone has a foundation upon which their sense of morality is built, upon which they then later base their politics. For the majority, in this country and the US it still is Christianity. Everyone is free to vote on whatever basis of reasoning they want, and everyone else is free to vote against them.

Most commentary seems to suggest that the election was lost on economic grounds. Ironically, Biden and the Fed seem to have achieved an near-perfect soft landing that would be the envy of most nations - I guess it counts for nothing when most voters are economically illiterate and just perceive 'higher prices throughout the term and growing unemployment = bad at managing the economy'.

Will be interesting to see what he actually does with tariffs - in theory it would be ruinous to the US economy - but in practice, who knows.
As Bill Clinton would say "It's the economy stupid."

When the younger people grew up without inflation ( Not a problem for twenty years) they got used to the cost of everyday items that they would purchase but these prices have jumped 50% over the time of the Biden administration. Once prices go up they never drop back so even if you get inflation under control it will continue to hurt. Inflation hurts everybody (even the smarties that profit from it.) Inflation usually rises faster than real wages.

As for tariffs:
When you are the biggest economy in the world you set the rules for your own benefit. Trump's idea is " if you want to sell goods in the USA, I'm gonna make it cheaper if you manufacture here by jacking up tariffs rather than importing."

Tell us you don't understand income tax without telling us you don't understand income tax.

The Republicans won control of the U.S Senate and might actually get the 'double majority' that means rubber-stamp time for the entirety of their policy

If they enter the country illegally that's literally a crime lol. What are these stats exactly, is it Americans do more crimes based on whole numbers or by percentage because those numbers matter. You do realise the more illegal immigrants come in through the border the more it enhances drug and human trafficking? Puts mass pressure on government and societal systems like healthcare and housing. Just recently the fentaol epidemic has skyrocketed an illegal immigrant went and murdered a few young girls that was definitely preventable and some gangs have taken over whole apparment complexes.

Agreed.

The narrative that "Trumps Tariffs (and yes they are referred to as Trumps Tariffs even though Biden kept many of them and increased others) are bad because the consumer pays for it", deliberately ignores that the consumer will not pay for the tarrifs IF they don't buy the tariffed item, which is the entire point of it all!

And even if they do buy it, then that means more tax revenue for the governemnt to spend on other services and programs.

In fact the reason why there is retaliation in kind is because tariffs do, in fact, work to reduce sales of tariffed items.

This is what’s happening TODAY. Under Democratic policies.
Its been happening for decades, under the policies of both sides.

The idea that Trump will do anything to make the lives of the working poor better (healthcare, poverty, standard of living) is genuinely hilarious.

And more importantly put a thumb on the scale determining if it's worthwhile moving your jobs and manufacturing to the borderline slave labour markets and shipping it back to sell to the wealthier one.

You're stating an interpretation of the policy that materially differs from what Trump has been saying. You supporters always do the mental gymnastics to sanitise what he said.

And you think Donald Trump is the one to do this...?
I actually think there's a very real chance it will happen as some Republican circles have mentioned this issue when talking about immigration. I don't think Trump has mentioned it but it's very possible it gets proposed to him by Someone in his circle.

So again we are making assumptions about what Trump meant when he didn't say any of it?
