Excellent. Would have loved to do this back in the day.

How did you get into it?
Always wanted to & there are a few agencies floating around recruiting Aussies. But one of my good mates went to this camp four years ago & then put me straight in contact with the camp director for the following year so got pretty lucky with a direct placement.

Pay flights & agency/visa fees. They money I earned the first year roughly covered all expenses for going over there, however as years/roles have progressed, saving money for spending purposes isn't needed anymore.

You're never going to get rich doing it but it's great life experience and develop life skills.

Plus, American girls just love the accent.

Leave in 2 weeks and can't wait

Going to LA, Boston, New York, Philadelphia, Washington, New Orleans, Orlando and Vegas.

Any tips for any of those places?

We are getting the Limo Liner from Boston to New York and training it to Philly and Washington

Get a car in LA. Very difficult place to enjoy without a car

Have you booked the bus yet?

If not, don't. Get the train (or a car) where ever possible. If you are going with a group of people, on the train you can go to the service car and all sit together with a seat and table in a seat for 4. On the bus, you care stuck 2 by 2 by 2 by 2

I loved getting the train from New York to Washington rather than the bus from New York to Boston.

Booked the bus already, it's just my wife and I so shouldn't be much of a problem.

The limo liner seems ok too, had friends get it in October and they suggested it

Lame for you, maybe.

I've worked at a summer camp in Upstate NY the past 3 years & am heading back there this April for my fourth summer. It's been the most incredible & rewarding experience of my life.
Go on then.

To me it just sort of seemed akin to those white kids who go to Uganda to build schools; basically just full of churchy kids or scungey backpackers. That, or basically like Contiki for volunteering. What was the scene like?

And how much did you make?

It's probably too mainstream for you, like touring around Europe or USA. oh wait...

Look, its not horrible (the bus) but I just felt we had more space to move around and freedome with the train. It was a long 4 hours on the bus and the tour guide was a dead set flog. Maybe thats what spoilt it for me.

We have done the Lux bus to the Grand Canyon from Las Vegas and that was brilliant, so I'm not totally Anti-bus.

Can you stop with the meme?

Sorry I thought the look of Camp America seemed a little bit... the sort of people who all smoke a joint near a fence and think they're crazy for doing so. I asked a genuine question and if someone got offended by that, surely their own great experience could recolour mine? Then again are you the sort of bloke who probably loves Contiki. You do use the word 'tour' though.

Do a swamp tour in New Orleans on an airboat.

Definitely recommend going to Kennedy Space Centre in Orlando. Seeing the Atlantis space shuttle up close was amazing.

Planning on just getting Ubers around it better to get a car?

what do you want to see in LA?

I've enjoyed LA 3 times without a car, if this is your first time hollywood, downtown, santa monica and venice beach can be done without a car.

You would want to be very confident behind a wheel if you want to drive around LA, Uber is very popular there so if you were only wanting a see a few places that relied on a car you could Uber.

We are doing a tour on the day in LA Rasta bus which covers most of the places we want to see

Going to staples Centre for a basketball match, Universal Studios for a day, the Grove (which we are staying near) and that's about it

Rubbish!!

You get more idiots on the Sydney freeways than you do in LA.

You will find that drivers in LA are more willing to let people into their lane as they are fearful of what the repercussions are if road rage occurs.

True.

Hardest thing about driving in LA is knowing what lane to get to as the freeways change quite quickly and you can at times have as many as 6 to 8 lanes going in one direction.

If that's your judgement, that's completely wrong.

People from all over the world, all there to work with kids & enjoy doing so. Students trying to make some money in their summer holidays away from college, staff members who grew up going to camp & love the place etc. It's extremely diverse, our camp has about 200+ staff all with a different background & different story.

First summer I made roughly $2k American.
