What can you tell me about Nuffy O'Dwyer

He's a man down on his luck who would have umpired A grade finals if not for his niggling calf injury.

Not happy with the way I've been treated by the VAFUA this year so thinking of going up the county to chase coin. :D

All clear thanks!

Nuffy,

Tough break champ, but that's footy for ya.

Might be hard to cut up the dancefloor of the local bars in a country league like you have at Marquee over the winter months. Could be hard to adjust to the different style of country footy but, if you're enthusiastic and willing to blend in with the culture, I'm sure you will prosper.

The VAFA's loss would be a country league's gain I'm sure...

I am going to ring Tommy Brain personally and tell him and the VAFA executive to stop eating suasage rolls and start watching Nuffy signal a suasage roll. If they cant see Nuffy's talent what else are the missing, Nuffy waives those flags with the precision of a surgeon's scalpel.

If he is is lost the VAFA this will be the biggest controversy in years, make the Topakis case look like a family picnic.

Did Jason McNiece try and hit on you Nuffy?????

If only Tom Brain's power was as big as his roof then Nuffy may be able to be saved. BUt, I don't think anything is as big as his roof...

Solid roof, did I notice a few tips sneaking into Tommy's hair?

Does enjoy a phone call from the "drunken hooligans at nobs".

This weeks Grand Finals
B Section
De La Salle V Old Ivanhoe

De La have seasoned B Grade premiership experience, hell, they win it every 2nd year but OI have plenty of talent (apart from consistently leaving the Motel empty handed).
Hopefully Stewy Low and Hope are fit, if so, OI in a canter.

A Section
Uni Blues v Xavs

On paper Blues, but if Xavs are within 10 goals at 3/4 time they could still win it. I think the blues to fend off the fast finishing red & black machine.

Red & black machine not fended off!

Hi all. Breaking my forum virginity so please be gentle.
Saw a great contest at headquarters yesterday - heartbreaker for the Bloods as Xavs write another chapter of September magic.
Would have been nice to see our esteemed A Grade correspondent Jonathon Horn drag himself away from his constant stream of vitriol against Old Haileybury for long enough to acknowledge the efforts of club stalwart Matty Armstrong in playing 300 games. This is an amazing feat ( as anyone who has played the game will agree ) and the lack of acknowledgement by Mr. Horn is inexcusable. Perhaps I am being too harsh and should recognise his journalistic integrity, although anyone who has penned an advertisement for a 1978 Cortina in the "Trading Post" has achieved the equivalent level. I await with great anticipation his first novel - "Me, Tony Greig and other people you wish had stayed in England".
Perhaps he should concentrate more on the real happenings in the competition than on whether he would prefer to be the lovechild of the Sheikh, or Brett Dobson.
Or maybe both.
I wonder if Scribe2 might respond on his behalf.
Congratulations to all the weekends Premiers and promoted clubs, and looking forward to 2 great Grand Finals this week

Gold!

I was there on Sunday and Haileybury should be bleeding big time that they don't get a second chance at Uni Blues. OH are a far superior football team than OX and I can't understand how they have beaten them at all this year let alone 3-0, I still don't believe that OX got home in the end. It was just a matter of september experience getting into the OH heads and the ctholics bluffed their way through again with their bs carry on. At least OH would have given the Blues a test next week.

I think OX may as well drop their pants now and prepare to receive the absolute spanking that uni will deliver them.

Han Solo

Who's dropped their pants now? Pull them up, it is an ugly sight.

You can't bluff in finals, you have to deliver. Xavs have delivered.

You don't have to like it but you do have to acknowledge it and 8 premierships in 11 years says it all.

Winners are grinners and the Xavs were deserved winners yesterday.

Frankly, they beat the Blues at their own game, running relentlessly through the middle. I felt Justin Arnold was pretty stiff not getting the BOG, some of his disposal was sublime.

Uni should've been further in front at the first break but Xavs set it up well in the second term, dominating possession and rebounding well off half back. Jars had a great game and showed how good a player he is when fit and firing.

In the end, I thought it was a very good standard, but the Xavs defensive pressure stifled the Blues' midifeld and the likes of Gleeson, Patterson, Kordick & Ryan weren't able to break the shackles.

On an amusing side-note, about halfway through the third term and rather large gentleman sidled up to a co-Woodrow Medallist and asked him to confirm his identity. The tall ruckman did so and was then advised that the large gentleman was the father of a player from SKOB who had received a rough "open hander" during the round 13 game. As his daddy was overseas at the time, he was unable to do anything about it at the time, but (had he been so) retribution apparently would have been sought. Some like "I'd have hunted you down like the dog you are..." or the like.

Several on-lookers (including yours truly) were somewhat dumbfounded by the approach. Scratching our heads but also wondering whether we ought interevene to set the record straight. Particularly given the incident in question was a complete accident whilst in play and hadn't even warranted umpire intervention. Fortunately, the ruckman parried the offensive away deftly and the intruder turned on his heel and marched back down the hill. Melee avoided, no clubs need beware.

Bizarre in the extreme, but it just goes to show who some people need to fight their battles!!

Made for an even more interesting afternoon at HQ.

I wonder when the ammo's hierachy will admit that Elsternwick Park is not the best ground for finals to be played on (possibly when Collo admits Telstra surface is off the mark). They might save a few bucks by not hiring the ground but I think they would get better crowds elsewhere.
Location is fine, surface is ok but too many games are ruined by wind while other better sheltered grounds are left unused. I know everywhere was windy on the weekend but EP is better suited to a kite convention.
What about planting some trees? I realise there are issues with branches falling on cars/spectators but with some good planning and some regular trimming, this risk could be reduced.
My 2c worth.

Elsternwick is a horrible venue, would hate to have seen what it was like on Saturday. Vic Park would be a good option. Moorabbin...?

Will never happen, unless the VAFA relocate their HQ to another venue with a football ground 10 metres away.

Maybe they could hold it at Brindesi Street.

Brindisi St is a terrible ground Alphonse, perhaps the Gillon.

Will the NOBSPCOBAFC be playing any games in sunny Ballarat next year...? Perhaps they could move it up there...?

I do acknowledge that they have won quite a few flags in the last decade and the team they put on the park each week is solid and they do lift during September.

The fact is with or without those flags Xavs would have to be the most self-righteous bunch of tossers in Melbourne. They must have a compulsory class in Year 12 called "How to be an arrogant knob". The amazing thing is even the players that they have "$$recruited$$" from outside are terrible blokes as well.

A tool with hundred premiership medals around his neck sitting in a pub talking about himself is still a tool.

Thanks for your support BP, but I think my mind is made up. Being overlooked for A & B garde finals is an insult and I would not be staying true to myself if I stayed with the VAFUA.

No Benny, but the inside word is that McNiece has been asked to look elsewhere next year if he wishes to umpire football. I know the VAFUA are very keen to wash their hands of this whole debacle.

Tall poppy syndrome. Losing brings that out in people, when you are not good enough yourself, bag those who are.

You can't even acknowledge great football without having a crack. You are weak as water, clearly had your arse kicked by the Xavs at some stage and you are a bad loser. Did a Xaver steal your girlfriend or knock off your sister or something?

A tool without a premiership medal around his neck posts on Bigfooty as Han Solo!
