Sad time for BF, Hipp. You seem to have lost your edge maestro. No bites this time or a previous post. For Gawd sake lift man. OTP will lose his tsk tsk touch.

A message from 'Bear'.

Tough ask for clubs to be ready to go when they won't have trained together for some 8 weeks.
1 club did

So what happens now. Will we have a 3 week or 2 week finals series, including AFL Grand final Day?

Quite an interesting point you make Pazza; with the AFL removing the pre finals bye, this would bring the AFL Grand Final to the 18th September? So we could potentially have VAFA Grand Finals played on or after AFL Grand Final - what a time

It would probably be in Perth with a 7 50 start Melbourne time , that could be the Prelim week for us.

First weekend of cricket in late 2020 was roughly 21/11 wasn’t it. We came out of the same (curfew) lockdown restrictions 7 weeks before that, and transitioned through stage 3 to stage 2 - which involved organised local sport returning.

Not saying we won’t return to local sport quicker this time, but I’m tipping the numbers of cases not in isolation will need to be close to zero. That will be a tough ask before the end of September IMHO

Statement out H&A season over , board committed to a finals series and Promotion and Relegation on hold to after that . Finals can be played on the Friday , Saturday and Sunday on the last weekend of September
LOL Cricket Victoria will say no to that as the Cricket Clubs in the suburbs -Not Premier or Sub District will be jumping up and down to there local councils for cricket to start in October even 1 club called South Caulfield who share with a ground with a strong VAFA club plus I they have a bloke called Bomber 😃 down there as he is a complainer.
Plus Turf Cricket would start a month after synthetic would especially if September and early October are wet and grounds can’t be got on too.

Got absolutely nothing to do with CV

Was there any mention to finals qualifications? Is it 4 game minimum for seniors and reserves.. Perhaps that could be lowered to 3 given shortness of season

Perhaps 3 minimum for seniors, and 2 minimum for reserves (provided no senior games played). Thus ensuring clubs dont "stack" reserves

4 in the reserves. No games qualification in seniors

The VAFA Board met last night and discussed a number of matters in relation to the remainder of the 2021 home and away season and finals series. Please see the following updates:
  • In light of the Victorian State Government announcement that Metropolitan Melbourne will extend the current lockdown until 11.59pm on Thursday 2 September, the home and away season for all VAFA competitions has concluded
  • The VAFA Board will meet again on Monday 30 August to review its position on returning to play and remain totally committed to completing the 2021 VAFA finals series for all sections under the final four (4), three (3) week model for all sections (except for Under 19 Division 3 Men’s and Under 19 Division 4 Men’s where a final six (6) applies)
  • The VAFA Board will consider scheduling finals on Friday 24 September to Sunday 26 September if required to complete the 2021 VAFA finals series
  • Clubs competing in finals will receive a short survey this week regarding returning to play if Victorian State Government restrictions permit
  • A decision on promotion and relegation will be postponed until the conclusion of the 2021 VAFA finals series. We understand this decision may provide uncertainty to clubs, however it will allow the VAFA Administration and Board time to consider the Women’s competition and Men’s Divisional competition structures for 2022 which both have significant influence on promotion and relegation.
Again, we reiterate that due to the evolving nature of COVID, we will continue to closely monitor the advice from the Victorian State Government and relevant authorities and changes may occur to ensure we complete the VAFA finals series for all sections. We kindly ask you all to be patient and to continue to follow the current list of restrictions in place across metropolitan Melbourne.

Are there enough grounds with lights for Friday night finals? Some grounds have pretty ordinary lighting.

With the season canned, the tipping competition has come to an end. Handsome plaques have been engraved and prizes appropriate to the need to keep our lockdown toilet paper hoard in top condition acquired.

There is no overall winner nor wooden spooner, given the difficulty in tipping varied between sections.
However you are a competitive and curious bunch, so:
- The highest overall number of tips is number52 with 48 in D2
- The lowest overall number of tips for someone who did not miss a round is bedford who achieved this feat in both Premier A and Premier C

The Nostradamus Award for the greatest number of five correct tips in the round goes to Champ or Chump with an extraordinary 6 fivers from 11 rounds.
