Had a check of the VAFA website. Surprised to find that the fixture for Week 1 of the Premier C Finals Series has gone missing. Could it be that the VAFA might be looking at alternative venues to host the 1st & 2nd Semi Finals (ie Scammell Reserve, Parkdale etc) and not Central Reserve & Frearson Oval for those two finals respectively?

You should be on the board

Watching the replay of the VAFA Women's Premier Grand Final, couldn't believe the lack of grass on the playing surface. You'd be forgiven for thinking that game was played in country Victoria, and not at Sportscover Arena.
As bad as it looks this grass is fantastic to play on. It’s designed to go yellow and look dead

I really don’t see any issue. 36350765-7D54-4371-9967-F0D78DEE4D0F.jpeg

Yesbut...

There's the winter grass that gets yellow and holds up and that's fine... I'm no groundsman and like everyone else I've got an opinion, mine is that it was cut too short and it's really deteriorated, especially in the last month or so with it being in use four nights a week for training and up to six games every weekend.

I'll take a closer look on Wednesday night and perhaps try to get some more authoritative answers.

The grounds that are yellow are a couch grass which turns yellow/dormant in winter, the ones that are green are a Kikyu grass, which is not as good as couch but stays green. Some of the private school grounds with professional curators and unlimited budgets will have a couch base and then oversaw with rye in Autumn.

Kikyu is not put on any ovals these days as it's too hard to manage , NO private schools have Kikyu

Mazenod president said on Saturday after our game that the council will not let them on the grounds after the weekend. It was very soft under foot but not soggy, the grass was holding up. Curators will have a big job filling in all the holes. There was a few rolled ankles during the game.

That's another ground that's not over sown , the couch doesn't start coming through till nearly November

If Frearson Oval and Central Reserve are unavaliable to do the Premier C semi finals this weekend, which alternative venues would the VAFA look at to host the first week of Premier C finals? Could W.A.Scammell Reserve in Oakleigh or Gerry Green Reserve (Parkdale Vultures's home ground) be called up at short notice?

What happens if Frearson Oval is unavaliable for use for the Premier C 2nd semi final? What options are there for the VAFA to consider, remembering that Trevor Barker Oval, Garvey Oval and Sportscover Arena are hosting other finals?
