Pretty sure Coburg isn't being used this week at all.

It isn't.

If Frearson Oval and Central Reserve are unavaliable to do the Premier C semi finals this weekend, which alternative venues would the VAFA look at to host the first week of Premier C finals? Could W.A.Scammell Reserve in Oakleigh or Gerry Green Reserve (Parkdale Vultures's home ground) be called up at short notice?

Frearson Oval at Monash and Ford Park at Ivanhoe are the C Section venues.

People do funny things to get in for free.

In a bush league final about 20 years ago, I saw two people digging a hole with shovels at the base of a cyclone fence on the outer side of the ground so they could sneak in for free and avoid paying $5 at the gate. Dumb and Dumber got caught though.

The Premier B preliminary final between Beaumaris & Old Haileybury should be a good game to watch live on VAFA TV. According to Paul Daffey in his excellent 2001 book on grassroots footy called 'Local Rites', it's the last chance for either Beaumaris or Old Haileybury to reach Premier, or to use the old VAFA terminology, A Section. It's a bit like in England where two teams in the Championship are competing for the final spot in the Premier League at Wembley, what is called the 'Million Pound Game', because there is a lot a stake; the massive amount of money awaiting the winner, and also the opportunity to play against the EPL big guns like Man United, Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea and Man City the following season. The same applies in this VAFA Premier B Preliminary Final-not only does Beaumaris or Old Haileybury can (hopefully) get on the Racing Carnival radio coverage, but also to front up against Old Xavs, St Kevins, Collegians and Old Brighton.

The departure of Shona McInnes as announced today is a shock to me. Shona's commitment to bringing womens footy into the VAFA would be well regarded by many.
And her resignation comes just after the VAFA Women's Grand Finals, including the thrilling Grand Final between Hampton Rovers & Albert Park out at Trevor Barker Oval, and also on the week where the focus should be on the VAFA Premier & Premier B Grand Finals, as well as the Premier C Preliminary Final. If the VAFA thought things couldn't get any worse after what happened earlier in the year, well....

Too little, too late?

"the VAFA wishes to acknowledge the recent article by Mr George Voyage in the Amateur Footballer journal titled ‘A Celebration of Women’s Footy’. This article did not recognise Ms MacInnes’ pivotal role in the establishment and consolidation of the VAFA Women’s competition. Mr Voyage regrets this oversight and wishes to acknowledge this."

Would anyone like to be a fly-on-the-wall on VAFA Annual General Meeting night? Expect to see and hear a very robust exchange of views between the VAFA clubs representatives, and the VAFA Board members at that meeting.

Would pay good money for front row. Big concerns with VAFAHQ
When a local council is in massive trouble, the Victorian government of the day (whether it's Labor or the Coalition) sacks the troublesome council and appoints three administrators to run the local government area for 12 months until fresh elections are held. Why didn't AFL Victoria do a similar sort of thing to the VAFA Board after what happened earlier this year, which took all the focus away from the on-field action, which was sorely needed after having no footy in 2020 and only half a season in 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic?

Surely the rain this weekend is a worse problem

The last of the Bear Cave crew has fallen on the sword. Think you will find this is a real opportunity for the VAFA admin to assemble a team that is willing to work together for the clubs and the VAFA community. This news and opportunity will be received very well in many places.
