VAFA General Discussion

The 2022 VAFA Annual Report would make for 'interesting' reading in more ways than one, plus the VAFA AGM will be a must-watch affair. Hopefully the VAFA will have the VAFA AGM live-streamed so we can see the robust discussions between VAFA club representatives and the Board over several issues (ie resignations of Brett Connell & Shona McIness; the decision to play a 22 round season in Premier C as opposed to normal 18 rounds in other sections; Premier C Grand Final on this Friday which meant the winner of last Saturday's Premier C preliminary final thriller Old Geelong only got a 6 day break), the fallout from the VAFA's decision to play the Premier B Grand Final on a mudheap at Elsternwick which ended up being a complete farce and a total embarassment for the VAFA. What made the Premier B Grand Final even worse was the fact that the game was livestreamed on VAFATV, Kommunity TV, Facebook, Twitter and the Racing Carnival radio website, which meant that viewers who were watching and listening to the match live on the internet witnessed first hand just how ill-equipped the VAFA was in organising one of the biggest on-field days on the VAFA calendar.
You should run for the board !

I still cannot believe no hard copy footy record with the team lists included. How the standards have dropped!!!
the first record I saw offered on Saturday was in the aftermatch on Sat night at Elsternwick Park !!!
I swear there were none on the gate when I walked in 3 hours prior.

by the way - the after-match had 8 people there.
So many embarressments at Heaqtrs.

a classic moment at the B grade awards ceremony, was the radio guy throwing the sheet for the best player from his commentary box out window letting it fall to the ground. There is a stair case literally 10 metres away. Absolute amateur hour !!! and also not awarding to OH number 5. Jeepers.

Involved with a EFNL club and ask the question who mans the gates, runs the canteen etc at Elsternwick Park Sandy and other final venues. In the EFNL clubs have to put in for finals and they have to pay a fee to host,EFNL employ staff to run the gates and all money goes back to the EFNL and all clubs.Hosting clubs have to use their own volunteers to run canteen, bbq and bars and also help the EFNL to run the day and the profit from these go back to the hosting club.EFNL covers costs for security and police. After the games at our venue people from both clubs come in and had a quick beer before heading back to their own venues. It worked out well.

Even six-club bush leagues make the effort to print a Grand Final 'Record' as a keepsake for the occasion. After all, it might be the only time someone plays in a Grand Final.

Makes the VAFA look like a bush league when all the neutrals who go once a year to see a Grand Final have NFI who is out on the ground - and don't use apps as an excuse for not making the effort to print one. Some people have no idea about apps and neutrals wouldn't know which one it is, how to find it and how to navigate it on a bloody phone.

A printed Record would also allow the VAFA to highlight and promote all of the competition's sponsors and give them value for their sponsorship dollar.

Don't want to sound ungrateful or nothin', but Coburg is an excellent finals venue with a brilliant atmosphere even with a small crowd.

Trinity is a wonderful deck with SFA parking. Carey is OK but I wouldn't call it in the same class.
To far for most people to travel one would think

There was a footy record for the premier grand final as I got one at the gate.

I have only seen a few ammo games but the grand final at Sandy had so much more atmosphere than the 2019 game I saw at Elsternwick Park.

Thought Brighton over-possessed the ball which cost them in the end.

Can we expect to hear from the VAFA CEO into what went wrong with the Premier B Grand Final venue and to give an undertaking nothing like it won't occur again in 2023?

Now that the event has been run and won, I'd expect HQ to focus on the future and the less that is spoken about the events of last weekend the better.

That's historically how the VAFA has approached things

Absolutely, this should be his statement:

“We play an outdoor winter sport and it rained. However, to appease those few people that are upset next years VAFA finals will all be played at Marvel Stadium.”
