Can’t see any kids living in Glen Iris travelling to Beauy to play, they all play with their mates, especially first year out. SKOB have already signed up 76 year 12 boys from 2022.
I concede your point about the proximity of Glen Iris. What if they are from Ormond and want to test themselves at a higher level?

What's the go here? When i was there in June, I didn't spot any divide between school and the old boys/girls
From what I've heard one of the biggest issues is their ground. They train and play out in keysborough which means they get very little attendance at their games. No atmopshere = poor culture = players wanting to jump ship.

Old Mentonians had no U19s this Season where St Bedes Mentone and Beaumaris had 5 sides between them, maybe a factor is the new Beaumaris Secondary College is taking boys away from Mentone Grammar who traditionally played for the School Old Boys but this trend probably won’t change now

They have identified this as a problem previously and actually approached Kingston council a few years back to see if they could find a ground in an area that better suited their playing and supporter cohort. They did play a few games at Ben Kavanagh in Mordialloc with a view to becoming a co-tenant but the plans ultimately fell through.

Hope they can survive. Mentone Grammar is not big school and they are in area full of strong, well-resourced clubs. The added impediment of players having to train and play in Keysborough is not a great selling point.

To be fair, Mentone to Keysborough is about a 5 minute drive.

Pretty poor by VAFA ceo to come out and lay the blame for the Premier B game on the foot of the club for both wanting to play in those conditions. Also at Council. (Article Herald Sun)

reporter must have missed the part where they were told it would be a split premiership. Link me the last split cricket grandy for washed out?

Seems the VAFA were quick to get on the phone to move AGrade (correct call) but not walk out there at qrt time. Halt for 30 mins and then reassess. Dangerous to play and poor defending by the CEO imo

Had a read of the article and it amazes me that the VAFA CEO didn't overrule the two clubs who wanted the game to go ahead when it became clear that Elsternwick Park was totally unfit to host the Premier B Grand Final. What the VAFA should've done was straight after the Premier B Reserve GF presentation ceremony, announce that the main game will be delayed while an inspection of the surface takes place (conducted by the umpires, representatives of the two clubs and the VAFA CEO) and then make the call on whether the Premier B Grand Final will go ahead.

Read it properly , HE WAS AT YOUR FAVORITE GROUND ! ON A HIDING TO NOTHING . The mistake was all Bayside council . It's very hard to move that many games at short notice

Nah. The council could do **** all with the weather and the amount of footy that was played on there throughout the year. The VAFA are entirely to blame here.

No one should have been playing at EP on that weekend on that putrid oval but you can’t play a curtain raiser and then knock on the change room door of the Senior players about to run out in a Grand Final and tell them to come back next week somewhere else, you’d be the laughing stock of footy comps everywhere

Very sad news today with the passing of a great AMMO and De La man in Paul Lourey, just a bloody legend of a human being. Very, very sad news.

Paul was a wonderful man and great supporter of De La and Ammo footy. Served as an excellent team manager for the U/19's and reserves for many years. The gap that Paul will leave behind will be extremely difficult to fill.

I know everyone at De La was shocked and saddened to hear the news as it filtered through yesterday afternoon.

As opposed to playing a grand final in a swimming pool which none of the other comps found amusing 🤣

That’s right, it should never have got to the stage of no plan B, obviously VAFA don’t have health and safety guidelines as a simple ground inspection before the day of the Grand Final surely would have rung alarm bells

So what should the VAFA have done on the day of the Premier B Grand Final?

Announced before the day that they were moving it to a better venue. It wasn't a secret that it was in a poor state.
Expect the future of Elsternwick Park/Sportscover Arena to be a very hot topic of discussion at this year's VAFA AGM. The VAFA had their opportunity to move their playing HQ to Sandringham as far back as 2004, but were convinced in their annual report that 'Elsternwick Park had enough pluses to warrant its retention as the playing HQ of the VAFA'. What the VAFA should've done was to split its HQ in two-the non-playing side (ie tribunal, board meetings etc) at Sportscover Arena, but the on-field stuff (ie h & a games, rep footy, finals, grand finals (Premier-Premier C) would be at Sandringham. Instead they missed the opportunity of a lifetime, and are now paying for it-big time.
