The poor umps were banished from Elsternwick by the council this week so they went to William St Reserve in Brighton instead and literally shared the ground with the dog walkers. Fortunately they seemed the responsible pick-up-their-poo types but the smell when the lid was lifted on the bin by the gate caused several goalies to suffer partial asphyxiation and tachycardia. Allegedly.
Gee that’s a shame 😂

Do they realise it's winter

Not surprising that clubs have been told to not train on grounds this week as most grounds have come under heavy stress from use and rainfall recently. This sort of things happens almost every year. I know that a few weeks ago after a few weeks of heavy use the Harry Trott wasn't as good as we have come to expect, but these things happen at this time of year.

Harry Trott was pretty rough on Friday night, I reckon it hadn't rained for about 9 hours plus when we played and it was still super water logged and thick mudpits over 70% of the ground.

Some quick sand/soil based covering of the sprinkler covers at the edge of the square was a highlight too... 😬

It's run by Parks Vic who are pathetic

HQ seem very over-protective of the oval these days. Looks last year's shenanigans has spooked them big time.

Yes, it seems this year that the Trott isn't holding up as well as it used to. I'm not an expert in these areas, but it is a concern, especially as we are not even halfway through winter yet.

They have no idea PV they have let all the ovals go , all they care about is fining cars

Parks Vic don’t touch Harry Trott oval, it’s managed by the harry Trott association who engage Cricket Victoria and the junction oval contractors to curate the oval during the cricket season and Wesley college curators during the footy season. To my knowledge all they do is the absolute bare minimum in regards to turf management hence why the ground is in poor condition.

But they allowed it to get to this .

Parks Vic don’t have a say believe it or not.
The Trott came last in the premier cricket ratings this year whilst the junction oval won the ratings, it’s curated by the same team which is quite obvious that it doesn’t get the attention required which then affects the ground come footy season. A wet winter and the ground becomes a bog! Word is that it might be getting rebuilt in a year or two, just need all parties to agree to it.

The rush to rebuild when the grand prix hit affected the future of the turf grounds and the Trott being one , the cricket pitches were all layed wrong , the sods on the Ross Gregory were laid the wrong way and it had to be redone . The only decent ground was oval 1

Well I know oval 1, which is the Ian Johnson Oval has a brand new $5 million clubroom facility, that is just for whoever uses this ground, namely a rotation of Albert Park and South Melbourne Districts when they're off their ground.

Yes, this is what I've been told from people in the know at Collegians. It seems that Cricket Victoria take control over the ground's maintenance in the summer and don't really provide as much attention to that oval as they do to the Junction, which is probably fair enough considering the Junction hosts first class cricket, BBL, women's BBL, women's first class cricket and even some international women's games, but it wasn't that case 5-10 years ago when Cricket Victoria used the Harry Trott more so than they do now. Either way, the current bog that is the Harry Trott needs to be fixed and that won't be the case until most likely after this footy season as we have five home games to go.

They built the 'new' Trott all wrong. We had some awful injuries in those first couple of seasons at the new Trott, with one of our best having (from what i can recall) a career ending injury on a chunk of brick still in the soil that he landed on. I believe there were some legal proceedings to come out of it.

The old Trott up the north of the park was an amazing surface (outside of the centre pitches). You could have a torrential downpour for hours and 30 mins later it's basically free of water. A perfect sandy surface.

Every ground had the same issue , bits of metal even being pulled up . Kennett and Walker didn't give a stuff , all they wanted was the GP . One club i know had both pitch rollers dumped and they club had to borrow 20K to replace them with no compensation.
As for rentals clubs in AP pay so much more in fees than any suburban club for a shit surface .

The current Harry Trott also has a sloping surface too, which isn't ideal, but we can't change too much about how the ground was designed sadly. That was almost 30 years ago now, time flies.

The water should run off with the camber , but it's the soil profile that's the issue .

Big doings at SFNL club St Kilda City. Mass walk out . Players not paid 2 days before clearances close. Dale Swan gone to Pines. Major sponsor pulled pin. Just a bit of news outside of VAFA.
Bit behind the times there Strobs Swan has played for about 7 different clubs this year , coach has gone as well , a few to Pines and 3 to Murrumbeena

Appreciate the current news as always. Interesting developments - well done.
No probs. There was a meeting last night. The club has apparently decided to stick out the season rather than fold. They will struggle with the loss of players. Word is a money man/player was paying players out of his private account which affected the salary cap. SFNL looking into it.
