The new VAFA president coming onto BigFooty to 'demand' posters behave a certain way? Not off to a good start. He's decided to try and silence the masses rather than focus on demonstrating that things will be different.

News flash Pres, this kind of talk will not change because you make a decree on an internet forum. It will change when we see you doing positive things for the sake of the organisation as a whole.
In fairness, I just think it was a bad choice of words.

There have been some personally disparaging comments in the thread that didn't enhance it. So I thought his offer of an open-door approach to questioning VAFA admin and policy decisions was fine.

Conducting a discourse on a forum of anonymous posters which, frankly, has a loose cannon or two was never going to end well for the VAFA.

That said, the VAFA needs to be more open, transparent, and accountable. It has many platforms on which to do that. All that is required is the will.

I don't believe that the post from 'the VAFA President' was from the President!

Several sentences were quite nice. However, the tone was, "I'm in charge here."

A suitable, switched on and courteous president wouldn't have addressed a conglomeration of nameless ‘know-alls’ in: -
Such a manner, and
In a forum where unnamed posters can hide.

Not knowing the man, but understanding that VAFA Club Presidents and delegates, trusted by their clubs have accepted him as President. There is little doubt that he is a worthy choice.

He will compose a postscript on the VAFA’s website putting to bed misconceptions.

Many of us posters have openly identified and introduced ourselves to each other. The known knowns have not been too derogatory concerning his post. Others haven’t.

Keep hiding and snipe.

Believe it was in fact the pres but a poor choice of words in a well intended action.

If it was the pres it is a strange media platform to choose especially after Bon Voyage's steer clear editorial about Big Footy and social media alike. I noticed that "Issac" edited his post a few times so the words were or perhaps the meaning was considered. I also think it would be against VAFA [Board] policy for any board member to post unless the whole crew agreed it was ok for him to do so. We'll never know but if he got the nod from the rest of the board fine but otherwise we may indeed have another rogue, act as you feel rambo in charge. Trying to think a bit deeper which is difficult for me, I don't think the new board or part there of [hopefully not more cliques] would sanction a post here under any circumstances?

Half the posters think he is the real pres and others don't?

If this Issac is an im post er great work b/c you have got us going in a lean time.

Interestingly one post referencing a single board member has been pulled down BUT others [derogatory] concerning the named Hable/Amad/Ewirt remain? Do we read anything into that? If it is the real deal Issac why would he not have DEMANDED those be removed as well?

Somehow doubt the BF Admin would have intervened in the manner they have had they not been convinced it was legit.

Added to this, you'd think the person in question would have clarified the matter on a VAFA platform or contacted BF had it been bogus.

Time will tell, I guess.

Do you know the rule? Is there one? I am just interested as a bystander.

No idea but individuals such as Isaac surely would need the backing of the complete board to go onto this platform. Intent is fine but hopefully he has asked more than his mum whether he can post?

I don't see that as an automatic assumption in general. If you're running an organisation you have the power to speak on behalf of it.
Agreed BUT on behalf of means you have to know what the other members think as well or you take a real risk as numerous posters have pointed out with his "DEMANDS!"

Read it properly mate. No issues with anyone demanding an end to harmful, inflammatory stuff. Hope that is the new Prez, a bit of strong, decisive leadership is clearly required.

My opinion comes separate to any opinions on VAFA: If you've been elected and your powers include the ability to make public statements as an officer of the organisation, I can see that people can object to the content of that statement, but not that the President made a statement at all.

VAFA-specific: I'd be interested in the clause that forbids the VAFA president from making public statements without consulting all/any other officers. Just my personal interest.

Vale Ken Petrucco, who almost single handedly changed the face of VAFA media coverage by persuading 96.5 Inner FM in 1998 to give the VAFA unprecedented exposure they never had before in its history, which included Matchday coverage of home and away games in both A & B Sections, interstate football live from both Adelaide and Melbourne, the VAFA vote counts and most importantly of all, live coverage of A & B Section Grand Finals which went live not just across Melbourne, but thanks to the internet also across Australia and around the world via the 96.5 Inner FM website- something that wouldn't have been possible prior to 1998.

I'm speaking here on behalf of >>>>>>>>>>>>> and I DEMAND you all read & agree.

Here is the "Isaac & The I'm in the Power Group" plan based on the recent VAFA AGM & SGM results.

Board appointments to be filled + the extra as a result of the demise of Big Al.

1. Reward the people who led the removal of Big Al so the x Fitzroy Pres gets on and Cool Cat Hibbo as well [youth policy]

2. Don't put any of the ones that missed out as an appointment because they might just provide diversity and views we can't control [they are toooo young policy]

3. No one from below Premier upbringing is entitled to be on or entitled to be considered [they have never made it policy]

4. Let's try to sneak Frankie Boy back on because no one will notice! [Ummmm policy]

5. Squeeze the remaining 4 board members out but How? [United one view Frank Sinatra Policy]

Just thought I'd liven up the 2024 BFVAFAP - enjoy your day

Great contributor over such as long period

Where was Isaac when all the other people on the board were named and shamed. He has only asked to have the posts concerning the one board member removed which is discriminatory IMO.
Needs to go and sit under the apple tree for a while!

Sad to hear of his passing. Gave the VAFA game day media exposure when no one else was interested.

Well! Don't think the "demand" bits were helpful. It's not his position, nor does he have the prerogative, to make such a call in these circumstances.

Whether it's been a formal matter, only those on the board would know. But surely no one believes the Prez has taken this action merely on a whim.

No, I read it. It doesn't read well no matter how many times i read it, or however you want to spin it.

Yelling at the masses is not good, strong leadership. We've put up with crap from the board for far too long with little to show for it.

He's only going to win people over by doing something to turn things around and we can judge him and his board on its actions. He's not winning people over by yelling at everyone to shut up.

To give you an example, several years ago, an A Section/Premier Grand Final was broadcast live throughout Melbourne on not one, but 3 community radio stations in a joint effort-Inner FM, North West FM and Southern FM. Something that the VAFA would never had dreamed about or even thought it would happen prior to 1998. And kudos not just to the late Ken Pertrucco, but also to then VAFA CEO Phil Stevens who had the foresight and courage to persuade the VAFA Executive/Board to allow a community radio station to broadcast VAFA games live on a weekly basis.

You're the savvy one on these things, Jase. My recall goes back to Inner FM being the only radio station that called a game each week throughout the season. They also devoted time on Saturday mornings for discussion and interviews with the movers-n-shakers. And covered major events like the B & F.

Think Southern just entered the calling caper for finals.

Ken had a senior role at Inner FM and was the driving force in ensuring a significant VAFA radio presence.

I have a copy of the 1998 VAFA Annual Report at home, and this is what the report said about 96.5 Inner FM starting up its long association with the VAFA via the Media sub-committee:

'Radio 3INR (which later became 96.5 Inner FM) began broadcasting B Section matches through the hard work of Paul Walsh and presented a VAFA talk show hosted by Phil Skeggs and Don Blackwood. This was a great innovation and much appreciated by the clubs.'
