Thank you, Max; well said, and "Merry Christmas."Now for something completely different.
Is it me, or is the quietest preseason on Bigfooty regarding recruits, departures and club furores.
We’ve heard some rumblings out of St.Bedes, the positiveness from De La, and Old Carey have been all over socials, but in reality there have been nothing.
Unlike the professional leagues, who will announce a new boot studder, especially if he has come from a rival club, it’s really been crickets from the VAFA clubs.
Max “Merry Christmas (hopefully that word doesn’t offend anyone) to all “Leader
Talking about yourself in the third person .That wasn't a secret about UHSVU because they seconded her nomination. Habel would auto be linked to UHS because that's where he came from. Still stands clubs missed the opportunity to have a lawyer on the Board. Doesn't matter the law would be the law so she potentially could give free advice. That was her skill set if you read her CV. Appears she has no link to any club previously or it is not mentioned.
Boards loss. Top ended appointments now. A traditional type of Board with A/B/C clubs massively represented. From what we hear well orchestrated by the old Fitzroy duck.
At least you get a VAFA ump in the U19 4ths or U23 8ths. Divisional reserves get zero umps; and then two 'fat blokes who refuse to leave the centre square' for the seniors.Let’s all get one thing correct it’s user pay not a grade pay & d4 don’t. Last I checked OX have 10+ sides. Should they have to fork out extra when 7 of those sides only get 1 ump or none? Yes their seniors should have to pay for 7 umpires but their u/19 4ths or under 23 8ths that get 1 fat bloke who refuses to leave the centre square should they be forking out for that?
The vafa doesn’t stop a to d4
User pay is pretty simple? Affiliation fees (Flat fee that increases as you move up the grades) and then you pay per umpire at the designated rate the VAFA set. No discounts for fat blokes though...Yeah I agree that we have a massive shortage of umpires & growth of women's footy has only made it even harder, But I am talking about the user pays system
Max - we just signed a new boot studder - I forgot to tell you last week when we caught up ;-)Now for something completely different.

Correct. That was what he ran his election on >>> "Change." And change the payments model for clubs he did.User pay is pretty simple? Tim Habel did a fantastic job getting the job done. Well done Tim.

We are more than happy to pay for VAFA umps for divisional reserves, and we have asked the VAFA many times if we can pay extra to get the ressies umps (i.e. more than the A grade market rate); because trying to get a reserves field ump for D3/4 reserves is perhaps the hardest job in amateur football and I'm sick of spending half my week trying to get one (plus they all get paid by the clubs around $100 per game).
Seems crazy to me that mens thirds get VAFA umpires; Premier reserves get 2 VAFA field umps, yet divisional reserves don't get a single ump; even though we are happy to pay.

We were lucky a few years back; but last couple we have struggled to get a regular...Not uncommon also for the other teams not to provide their ump.Having umpired a lot of D2/D3 reserves over the last 10 years, you do umpire with the same volunteers at each club nearly every season. Is it confined to just your club that can't get a reserve field umpire?
I do agree that lower grade Unders don't need a VAFA appointed umpire and the higher grades only need 1.

The under def need vafa umps, they dont get a lot of support from within clubs a lot of games are at 9.20 & do you really want someone's dad giving his son free kicks?
1 ump works for the 3rds because its less serious footy & its a home club ump that is just helping out
thank god there is no discount for fat blokes.User pay is pretty simple? Affiliation fees (Flat fee that increases as you move up the grades) and then you pay per umpire at the designated rate the VAFA set. No discounts for fat blokes though...

I might be giving it away !Must be Premier Thirds only as I’ve never seen a VAFA umpire at a thirds game. Biggest struggle for our club was when the thirds are playing the other side of town at 9.20, that’s always hard to find a club umpire to travel for.
Thankfully this year the biggest cheat in D2 reserves will be plying his trade in D1, good luck Bedders.
I'm not sure which one you mean. Both were fine in our games tbhMust be Premier Thirds only as I’ve never seen a VAFA umpire at a thirds game. Biggest struggle for our club was when the thirds are playing the other side of town at 9.20, that’s always hard to find a club umpire to travel for.

Actually when we did this year (women's, reserves, seniors) our women stayed back most weeks.Triple headers - I'm yet to see any benefit of hosting matches at 9:20 am.
Time for a re-think, there is no way players are hanging around all day to support the teams that play afterwards.

They would all be complete. Just pure laziness not to fill in on website. New Board is all for transparency >>> just need the admin to lift their game.Just interested to see so many investigations incomplete from the 2023 season, could it be that the lawyers are getting involved, surely HQ would’ve liked to have all those pending and ongoing off the books
User pays.I am disappointed to hear a 10% increase in affiliation fees.
I went down to the Collegians AGM about 6 weeks ago now to hear the treasurer outline that affiliation fees had risen from around $33,000 in 2022 to $46,000 in 2023. If it is true that affiliation fees are going up another 10%, that will be very tough going for all premier clubs, including the ones everyone thinks are well off.
Sadly, year on year, it is getting more and more costly to put a side out on the park, at a variety of levels.
