Happy to accept fwiwFWIW new vafa president creating a big footy account and the Herald Sun doing a write up on Div1-Div4 recruits, what other nuggets does 2024 have in store? Bedford as the new mod?

If it's not broken ..... However, there could be room for improvement.
Let's just leave it; it works.
The problem for the wicks is the area is majority private schools or kids who already play for Vamps/City. Hard to recruit the kids (25-30??) to start a 19s program when they could go to local prem clubs with established programsIf they don't have any kind of feeder program they will inevitably die. Its important and vafa should be pushing them to try and get one or something similar up, easier said then done i know but not many players are playing into their 30's anymore. Numbers can fall off very quickly.
We just endured the longest season of all time!Simply no, unless they have an 11/12 team division. A top five means an extra week of finals which means booking more grounds
We had a 11 team grade in 2022. Playing 20 rounds plus finals plus 2 bye weeks. It was a killer. We were lucky not to play finals that year. Really affect the following season for lots of clubs. Add to the fact that the previous season was the Covid year.We just endured the longest season of all time!
Should be cutting weeks out of the roster preseason is six weeks away!
a. Coburg would join the NFNL, not the VAFA.Coburg as a club is struggling on the field in the VFL. There is the potential they could join the VAFA full-time if things don't turn around. They do have strong financials off it though.
Sandringham don't exactly make a lot of money out of hosting VAFA finals every year.
Coburg would move to EDFL if VFL becomes too hard. Need to have a junior program that is viable and thats not VAFA.a. Coburg would join the NFNL, not the VAFA.
b. Sandringham are funded partially by St Kilda and a well established function centre so don’t necessarily need the finals revenue
c. Coburg have to raise ~$1M per year on their own to reach the VFL minimum standards. The NFNL finals revenue would be a very attractive proposition for them, VAFA would not come close to comparable dollars.
" Although they are separate entities, Preston AFC maintains close links with the Northern Bullants, who compete as a standalone side in the VFL. Both clubs use the same logo, colours and jumper design, and the Northern Bullants were also known as the Northern Blues from 2012 until 2020.[2]If Preston went the same way, I reckon they'd more likely join the NFNL (do they currently have any junior teams?). If they didn't have juniors, there is the option of merging with the Preston Bullants VAFA club.
Is the VAFA club a breakaway from the VFL club in any way?

Need to start from scratch with players as well. Disaster. There was a Coburg team in Ammos in 70s. Thats where Phil Cleary came from before heading to VFA.
Any chance of VAFA going to a top 5 for finals fixtures like some other leagues? Or top 4 here to stay?
You can understand Division 3 having it this year given the number of clubs. A final 5 with 10 clubs per division could prove problematic.
Season becomes too long.half of the AFL teams make finals each year. No reason why there can't be top 5 in VAFA. It makes the final home and away rounds far more interesting for the mid table teams. If grounds is the issue, then just play first week of finals at ground of highest place teams.
8/18 was less than half at the school I went tohalf of the AFL teams make finals each year.
Clearly I have been hit on head too many times playing footy8/18 was less than half at the school I went to![]()
Can't believe that - why do the Masters which is about 4/5 teams only get a VAFA B & F award when thirds/ressies don't? VAFA don't supply VAFA umpires according to the weekly Friday allocation sheet UNLESS the VAFA supply them under the table and others miss out? Suspect Masters are school boy teams so I guess it is the usual >>>> divisional & suburban teams miss out again!I noticed they gave out a league B&F award in the Masters, yet I can't find anything on the VAFA website as to who won the Grand Final. The website has the game listed for 3pm on August 18, with only 3 or 4 teams did the league not bother with the GF?
Anyone got any info on this or has the Masters competition died a lonely death?
Alright, then lets dismantle Xavier's ability to have three 19s and four Thirds and start incentivising a rounded competition where community clubs are celebrated, rather than punished for actually having a history that doesn't involve just sending mass emails to old boys and setting up recruitment meetings to offer them cushy jobs at Colliers. If they don't have any kind of feeder program they will inevitably die. Only a fool thinks strength comes from tearing others down. I know you know that, and you are just posting to draw laughs. SKOB, Xavs, Scotch and other clubs that have grown have done so by hard work and building a culture of respect. Most of their players wouldn't want to play anywhere else.Alright, then lets dismantle Xavier's ability to have three 19s and four Thirds and start incentivising a rounded competition where community clubs are celebrated, rather than punished for actually having a history that doesn't involve just sending mass emails to old boys and setting up recruitment meetings to offer them cushy jobs at Colliers.

So you think OX having multiple Thirds teams and demanding not to be fixtured against each other is good for the overall health of the competition?Only a fool thinks strength comes from tearing others down. Was a 50/50 split between Old Boys and District clubs. Was a shambles this year. One club pulled out early in the piece and forfeits happened regularly. Probably time they scrapped it and let those with an appetite for over 35s to return to the previous comp. Can't believe that - why do the Masters which is about 4/5 teams only get a VAFA B & F award when thirds/ressies don't? Biggest growth in VAFA football is Thirds. Most teams have enough resources. Was a 50/50 split between Old Boys and District clubs. Was a shambles this year. As long as there are sections enough to cover multiple teams, what is the problem? (Apart from other clubs deciding it's all too hard playing against them and pulling a forfeit?)So you think OX having multiple Thirds teams and demanding not to be fixtured against each other is good for the overall health of the competition?
Then there was Mazenod who have gone back to back in the same grade as didn't go up this yearAs long as there are sections enough to cover multiple teams, what is the problem? (Apart from other clubs deciding it's all too hard playing against them and pulling a forfeit?)
As it transpired in 2024, there were six Thirds sections. Old Xavs won only two of these flags, and I'm told neither was easy.
